Mostly I'm just sort of saddened to see it go. It doesn't make any real world differenct, but my first video card was a Radeon 9200. I remember it fondly because it was actually useful compared to the intel integrated graphics I was upgrading from. It's been a long saga with the war with invidia, and odd to see the banner name kicked to the curb.

to me ATI means GPU's maker, AMD cpu's maker.... and CPU's with GPU's (APU's) on same silicon means "Fusion" i would not change the name as everyone identifies ATI as top of GPU's an then Radeon, Firepro, and other products..
I dont like the idea of what they plan to do next. Just let things as they are !!

Dammn it ! ! 😡

I have been a fan of ATI video for a long time, will be sad to see it go. The strategy makes sense, given the move to integrate CPU and GPU together on the same die.
I am happy to see the retention of the Radeon name, that still holds some sentimental value for me.

Wow, I just realized that I am reminiscing about the proposed change in branding for a graphics processor... I need to get out more.

I bought my first ATI card long before AMD purchased it. But, I do not mind AMD discarding the ATI brand name. The graphics cards will stay the same.

[citation][nom]the hedgehog[/nom]It's going to be strange not having the name ATI around.[/citation]

I agree. I grew up knowing VooDoo, nVidia and ATI. When nVidia failed me, I went to ATI. I will miss ATI as a company itself. Hopefully this is a wise shoice.

The reason why nVidia has such a larger known name compared to ATI is because they are that much larger.

I also understand why AMD is doing it to try to strengthen their brand vs nVidia and even Intel.

But here is to ATI. They came, they pushed and they drive nVidia insane. Rest in peace.

What's gonna happen to ruby? She's evolved over the years along with ati to look better and better. Is she sticking around?

I think this change will help AMD in the CPU market. Right now many people know the Radeon name. If they keep making amazing products under the Radeon name with AMD attached it can get some "free" advertising.

I feel this is a sad moment for ATI under AMD... I think ATI has really improved to take on Nvidia in recent times, now only to have there name replaced by AMD.

However, i do like that AMD is trying to unify the name with some kind of purpose - the AMD Fusion product will someday be the future, and moving themselves to one brand is a smart move for AMD.

The worst part of this is to the general consumer that only knows about ATI - Nvidia for graphics cards. They may now be completely lost when it comes to graphics cards.

[citation][nom]reprotected[/nom]GG for AMD. Intel fanboys will be pissed.[/citation]
Along side with Intel`s mobile Ads , AMD will gain a reputation sitting next to it :) in my opinion this is Free publicity for AMD :) People will see AMD sitting next to Intel so they will notice better the company that they did till now. I just wonder what will Intel have to say when they will see their Mobile platform in Stores and AMD next to it :)

anyone else curious to see the driver icon on the taskbar now? :) whats it gonna be like?

Good job, Tomshardware. Don't mean to insult Gizmodo, but their article sounded as though we would be seeing "AMD Radeon 6770", and this cleared things up.

That makes sense, however it's going to be weird that you won't hear ATI anymore. The most annoying thing about this is the fact that anyone who has an ATI badge on their case might want to swap it out for a newer AMD Radeon, Firepro badge.

LOL, i just conjured a thought:
some people are gonna think that they have 2 processors in their notebooks when they see the intel and amd stickers together.

kidding aside, generally this will not make a difference talking about just the hardware. however, this will be a good move for the processor side because amd has not been good at advertising their products (unlike intel). hopefully, this it gives their processors better hype since you will see more of amd in the market (not that they aren't).

[citation][nom]nforce4max[/nom]Sigh another great brand gets the axe. I still remember STB and Power VR. I still got a few trident cards around. ATI will be missed but not forgotten.[/citation]
PowerVR isn't dead. They design the best low-power mobile graphics solutions around - look at the fastest cell phone GPUs. Yep... PowerVR. That fancy new Samsung Hummingbird? PowerVR SGX 540. iPhone 4? SGX 535.

I think this leaves plenty of room for change. Although I'll miss seeing the ATi logo, I think we all realize that this is really going to boil down to three major competitors in the CPU/GPU market: Intel, AMD, and nVidia, because no doubt nVidia will enter sooner or later to offer its own edge. The way I see it, when AMD bought out ATi, it was a brilliant move to enter into the world of CPU/GPU competition, opening up for two markets, and now nVidia is on its way. Intel is still powerful as a name, but I think if nVidia steps up to the plate, and with Intel's lack of GPU research, gamers and graphics enthusiasts will lean to the companies that provided the aesthetic appeal of computers.

I'll miss ya ATi, tell Voodoo to stay put.
