The 2600 may be faster at times for some apps. Is it worth 10% more than the 2500? Idont think so.
With the nvidia chipset, you get a memory bandwidth boost if you use 2 sticks of ram in the correct slots. This will give you about 25% more bandwidth, and net a system improvement of 2%. I think it's worth it, since 512 megs of ram is well used, and two X 256 megs is about the same as 1 X 512 megs. Using PC3200 (DDR 400) is only usefull if you are going to run your chip on a fsb faster than 170 mhz. Since the 2500 is often able to run at fsb of 200 or more, it is a good idea. I do not think of running the xp2500 at a fsb of 200 with a multiplier of 10 as overclocking, but rather as a bios adjustment. Most have shown that they are quite happy there, with no noticable increase of temp, and no added voltage required. An fsb of 200 also nets an added ram bandwidth of 20% over 166 fsb. Whatever fsb you do use, the ram does work better if it is sync with it. Hope you understand about DDR being twice the fsb.
