Anatomy of a failed overclocking

How would I know whether or not I screwed up in my attempt to overclock my Athalon 800?

I did the L1 bridge thing, but I don't know if I did it right. In general, I can boot my system (a7V133), drop into the bios and increase my 800MHz chip to a 900MHz, and sometimes even a 950, but invariably on reboot my machine just freezes before the video BIOS screen. I've got a GeForce 2 Ultra.

I'm not sure if my chip is just incapable of running higher than 800MHz reliably, or if I somehow messed up my attempt to close the bridges.

Increasing the core voltage beyond 1.75 invariably causes the "no video BIOS" problem.

TIA,

So it never posts as a 900? Sounds like you need to re-do your pencil work. You need very hard lead and make sure none of the lines cross each other.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

It's solid at 850, but nothing higher. I guess I'll try the pencil thing again. Worst case is I blow it and have to go buy a new 1.3/266 for less than I paid for the 800/200! :)
