Annoying trait with the 3 next-generation consoles

Here's a petty complaint about the three upcoming consoles: they're all
vertically aligned! I assume all of them can be laid horizontally, but
what are all of these companies doing by presenting the vertical
alignment as the default? Are they just proud that they can be
positioned in that way? Most other home electronics equipment is
horizontal and home entertainment centers are basically designed for
equipment to be aligned in that way, so I just can't imagine too many
people choosing to prop their consoles up on end. I remember the PS2
was presented in this way back when it was introduced and I thought it
was pretty dumb back then too (especially on a system with wired
controllers).

This complaint definately isn't in the league of
I-can't-believe-Nintendo-isn't-supporting-HD, but I warned you this was
a petty complaint.

Yup, I agree. I know mine will be laid on it's side

But at least with the Rev it's practical. The thing is small enough to fit
vertically next to some short width components like a VCR, Sat receiver,
etc. Also, I guess you could slide it in next to a TV, since there's
usually room there in most cabs.

If it's actually able to be turned on from the wireless controllers, then
mine will be behind a door, probably, out of sight.

That's my biggest pet peeve. No remote power on these things. Maybe that's
the big Rev. controller secret? lol.

The Xbox 360 will have that ability, so I am hoping that all 3 of them
will have that ability.

But what would be the point of alternate faceplates and sexy
console designs if you're just going to hide the thing.

There would be no point. But, I'm sure the Pokemon gen would like them to
be displayed next to their Faygo bottle collection, etc.
