[SOLVED] Any ideas for a new Ryzen based system Motherboard ?

Hi Guys

I have to replace my slow Duel core 3Ghz desktop.
My Criteria at lowest cost self-build.
A system as follows.

AMD CPU = Effective 4Ghz multi-core
Mem = 16GB (min)
500GB SSD to host Duel boot.
Space for at least 4 Sata devices for 3TB HDD x2 *, (the SSD)
and one spare for emergency imaging.
Fits full size Graphics card. *
Small Case factor motherboard. Enough to put in a shopping bag,
to sit down and use in a public library.
Low power, or switching from active & idle modes. Low enough to run off a 12v car inverter, along with 17" monitor.
Good connectivity.

I will be duel booting Win8.1/Linux
from the 500GB

Any ideas ?

Win8.1 is not officially supported with a new Ryzen based system Motherboard. Supported OS is Windows 10.

I am not familiar with your electrical system - "Low enough to run off a 12v car inverter,"
I suggest using a minimum 500 watt ATX power supply that meets ATX specification ATX12V 2.0 or higher. Normal voltages are 110/220v AC.

Any m-ATX or ITX motherboard could meet your criteria - the graphics card size is conditioned by your chassis, not the motherboard. If you really want something compact, then do away with the graphics card and get a R5 2400G. Power-wise, the motherboard has little impact on total power usage - you might shave off 2-3W when going with a B450-based one instead of a B350.
Starting at mid-range (B350 and up), you get between 4 to 6 SATA ports, 1 or 2 M.2 slots and then, it completely depends on your backplate design if you get 4, 6 or 8 USB ports on top of the plug-in ones on the motherboard. The MSI B450M Bazooka V2 should meet your criteria, the MSI B450M Mortar offers better I/O.

Small cases generally dont hold more than 2. Most have gone to 2.5" now.

As for inverter of a Car.. well thats not a problem as long as you buy a decent car inverter and have a decent battery

For instance a 60Ah battery is 12v
12x60 = 720 watts
so if your system draws 360 watts you would get about 2 hours
Likely, if you didn't have an external GPU running and you had something like a 2400G

Yes, there's no PC-compatible gaming system that sips as little power for as much oomph as the 2400G - you can actually run the whole computer with a power budget under 160W. Just keep all your HDDs in mind, a "normal" mechanical HDD can use up to 10W of power - an SSD will be happy with a tenth of that.

As for the car inverter, you can IN THEORY pull as much as 500 Watts from a normal car's power system (720W is in theory for a perfectly fine power system and zero-resistance cables, but you need to drop it 20% to get realistic), but in practice you should not got past 200W - and the lower you go, the better it gets.

Now, since a computer is supposed to run in DC mode using 12V and lower, you may just forgo the inverter and get a dedicated car power supply: http://www.mini-box.com/M4-ATX

This way, instead of converting 12V DC to 110V AC and back to 12V DC (incurring as much as 30% power loss), you could pull 12v DC directly into your PC - with hardly any power loss at all.
