From the pool of feedbacks around here, we could savely assume that apple's ad that served them well over the years has backfired.

Dissing and throwing dirt is just not attractive advertisement. Someone at apple marketing should take note.

If Apples were so superior and without viruses and impenetrable, why doesn't the Department of Defense use them instead of PC's? I wonder how confident Apple would be that their machines are impenetrable if you've got a bunch of Russian and Chinese hackers trying to get through.

I really don't understand Apple's need for a larger market share, it's the worst thing that could happen to their company. In the event that the Mac vs PC ads cause a boom of sales, say like gaining an additional 15% of the home computer market in a single year, one of two things will happen.

One people will find out that Macs do need virus protection and be turned off by the white lie.

Two Apple ignores the fact the average user believes everything they see on the TV (and they do that's the only reason why Norton, AOL, and McAfee are still in business)and they don't install anti-virus because it's a MAC its "immune". And as sure as the sky is blue hackers all over the world will be writing code nonstop to take advantage of the situation. Thus killing Apple's reputation for virus/maintenance free computing (which is their only strong point) and again be looking at holding the bottom 10% of computer sales.

Then there is the ridiculous cost for Mac repair. If, after the warranty, your Mac breaks say dropped, lighting damage, spills and the like getting your Mac fixed is like buying a new Mac. I work at a break fix shop and every Mac that comes in for repair looks at least $600. Example one customer brought in a laptop with a dead screen (closed the lid too hard according to her an avid Mac user) cost of the monitor $550 usd with my labor another $60 to $120. That's for a 4 year old Mac. Older G4 Desktop replacement motherboard (authorized Mac store) $600.

I have to stop I'm just ranting now but Mac isn't worth the price for the product.

I work retail computer sales and believe me these are all bs. Yesterday I had a customer come in.... WITH A VIRUS ON HER MAC!!! =O!!!! And twice last week 2 people came in with corrupt OS's on their MAC!!!! And people tell me all the time they can't figure out where their stuff is on their mac or why their stuff won't work on a MAC or why they have to buy so many adapters for a MAC.

ok so Apple marketing is very smart either... I can no longer insult Microsofts, because in relation they aren't much worst than apples.

It wouldn't have been tought for the first commercial. Rather than saying crashes/viruses/whatever, they could have said "can edit movies well in", and then "Has a contrast ratio that isn't shit" and then, ONLY once they narrows the PCs down to like one or 2, so they mention "I need an OS that won't give me a headache to configure and use for ANYTHING I need" then the two PCs could leave.

Just like the Microsoft commercials, the apple commercials could have been done way better. I think this generation of marketing people have gotten lazy =P. All these commercials and the laptop hunter commercials have done are fuel more rage and hate between apple and PC users =P... because it has made them questions each others commercials. I can stand aside and laugh at how terrible both them are being a user of practically every OS.

People say they tire of all the "Apple lies"...what about the MS lies?

Slow running Apples at school? Rarely will any computer in an educational setting run as fast as a home computer. They are old, configured with low costs in mind, and bloated with various security apps. I run both PC and old eMac's at school...the 5 year old eMac's run circles around the new Dells. But, neither will run near as fast as my Vista Ultimate box or my Mac's at home.

I have never liked the Apple ads, but consumers surveys show that they are rated highly by the viewers. Also, Consumer Reports latest computer survey put Apple on top in almost all computer designations. Apple has run a consistent ad campaign, whereas MS is all over the board and seems to be grasping out of desperation...first there was Seinfeld, (insert ad),...and now we get the MS goes shopping consumer attack ads. Attack ads from any source are belittling to all, and we can thank our politicians for that.

I'm now immune to pc & mac ads. There have been enough slander ads that I don't even care anymore.

My response to this newest ad? BFD.

The lab at my college had nothing but Macs and these things would have problems that I can best describe as a "seizure", where the entire thing would freeze up and the screen would...I guess tremble is the correct word. It required a hard restart.

Also, this message was quite frequent: "An unexpected error caused Safari to quit."

There is only one way to settle this....Thunderdome!!!

Two men enters...One man leaves.

Get Bill Gates and Steve Jobs in the freaking cage and let's be done with this. Instead of weapons like chainsaws and spears they can have PC and Mac parts hanging around.

I would kill to see Steve swinging an iPod around his head like a savage and Bill standing there wearing a suit of armor built from MS keyboards.

On a seperate note....am I the only one that thinks Bill is starting to look like Stephen Hawking? Slap him in a wheelchair and break his neck over and I would think it was Stephen's brother.

holy crap. would you mac haters please change the record! i laugh my ass off every time these commercials are aired because they are done well and are hysterical. the Micro$oft commercials are a weak attempt at a "rebuttal" and seem desperate. but then again creativity isn't their strong suit... let it go, pc freaks. it's okay that you cant afford one, just dont be a hater.

I couldn't stop my GF from buying a Macbook. I've had no problems in the last 4 years. No viruses, re-images, nothing. The Mac's been imaged 5 times due to problems, and has a dead top case. I'll fix it myself eventually, because Apple wants like 700 dollars to replace the part. Its worth 40 bucks, and takes 10 minutes to replace....

My favorite Mac crash, was when she tried to use the Apple encryption software, and it wouldn't let her into her user account. Apple's solution was to log into an Administrator, and make some changes.... but, the solution was a joke, and we had to image it. Why its my favorite, was her baffled "But doesn't this sort of thing work on your Dell just fine?"

The GF still prefers Macs because she likes OSX, and just uses the laptop to browse myspace and Hulu. But, by now she's shut the hell up on the Mac promoting, and uses my Desktop PC for anything that requires much more than a web browser.

[citation][nom]tonkatuffmofo[/nom]These Ad's both Microsofts and Apples are really lowering the intelligence bar of the whole computing industry in general.Playing the bulls$##!t to the lowest denominator, does anyone else find this frustrating??[/citation]
Very.. just goes to show the age of Misinformation.

I use an Apple at home, Vista and XP at work. I have no viruses anywhere. It's all about user education. If there was more awareness about viruses, trojans, malware, spyware etc this issue would be a lot easier to deal with.

These commercials are just plain silly and doesn't offer any incentive one way or the other. Next commercials in line from Apple:

"Microsoft is just a big fat doodle head!"

Microsofts's reply:

"Takes one to know one!"

Totally agree...my gf's video ipod's headphone jack died last year, and we took it to the apple store to find out how much it would be to have it fixed, they told us since it was out of warrenty it would cost *drum roll* 150 bucks. So we went on ebay and bought a new one with the "tools" (aka little plastic screw driver) for 25 bucks....took about 10 minutes to replace.

also as for the whole apple has consitant ads while ms has them all over the place...true, but only because they can think of new ideas. The apple ads are getting over used. Also as someone else said they are only focusing on the pc, but all the things siad to the pc could be throw back at the mac the exact same way. Last item, as long as you take care of your pc (hell you can even look up porn...) your computer will be PERFECTLY fine.

Ok, this is totally off topic, but I really don't like how the "Alert me if new talkback" is checked by default...I think we should check that if we want to get the annoying e-mails everytime someone else posts...

I have extensively used both and developed for both and supported both. For those of you who are PC happy, most of you probably havent used an APPLE ever, or in a long time. At home, I hardly EVER use my Windows machine. I have no need for it. I've had my mac for 5-7 years and guess how many times its locked up on me or needed a reboot because something was working right...3 times.... I keep it on 24/7, run multiple applications on it AND ITS ON the old as G4 processor (thanks apple for updating that 2 montsh after i purchased mine it). SO if you are on here bitchin about the APPLE ads or how great Linux or MS is, you are are simple jaded and uninformed. The reason you probably hate APPLE is because they are different (and might freakin expensive). I can tell ya, I would never purchase another mac again, as APPLE modo is to make your expensive purchase OUTDATED within a few months after purchasing it.

I know everyone is upset at the commercials, but Apples market share has been going up while keeping their price premium, so the overall marketing is working.

Yes Macs can get viruses. But if you read all the articles where Tom's talks to the security experts, see what machines they run. They are all on Macs for the most part. But like others have mentioned, if the Apple share keeps growing, eventually it will be financially sound to start focusing efforts on Apple.

I just dropped $1300 on a PC that kicks my friends new $2500 MacPro's ass. He's got those kickin Nvidia GT120's in SLI baby! I make plenty of money to buy that MacPro in cash right now if I want, but I prefer to spend my money wisely and not stupidly.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Im very sure that All the leading benchmarks for performance are held by Intel for the I7 series, which is a PC, the only thing MAC has is a different OS, and that is what a virus attacks anyway, When MAC starts selling their processors and motherboard manufacturers start manufacturing motherboards that are compatible to build your own MAC system at home and It be competitive for gaming, then I will say MAC is a good choice.....As of now You have to take all or nothing but seperate the components and the OS and well see how they hold up against "7" and INTEL and AMD's processors.

I'm confused, so you are for or against Apple?

Additionally, nobody here is complaining about Apple's usefulness or how well written their OS is. We all agree that it's a solidly built machine with some well thought out code behind the OS. The issue is that no matter how solid the construction and code writing is, it's not worth the $1000 premium you pay over a PC. I dont care if my PC needs to reboot every few days, I dont care if it freezes up every once in a while. What I do care about is if I want to upgrade the RAM I don't have to pay $200 for 1 GB.

It has never been about quality, it has always been about price. As an analogy imagine for a moment you buy a Ford Fusion fully pimped out for 30k or you can buy a pimped out BMW 3 Series for 36k, that difference, while arguable, is only a 20% markup for a perceivable quality difference. Mac's however carry often times nearly a 100% markup over their PC counter parts... and for what, a different OS?

apple ads are a bit misleading, they basically say that macs don't crash or suffer from virus programs. see elimination ad. but they do, all software crashes, are software is prone to viruses. just google and you'll see the mac crashes, that the mac can be infected by viruses. they play off ignorance and bias and go after newbies and novices.
