[citation][nom]grieve[/nom]I feel bad for Ma and Pa who go to buy a computer but are ignorant and don’t relies apple is rubbish and flat out lying on their commercials.[/citation]

I find it more humorous that people who can't spell (it is "realize") seem to know so much about consumer behavior. Truth be told, all marketing is a war of disinformation and to imply that Apple is any worse than MS is ludicrous...any intelligent person could tell you that.

Ok people...I have a mac and a PC. My laptop is a Mac and my desktop is a PC. I'm running Windows 7 RC on my desktop, and so far I'm impressed. It may not be more then a dressed up Vista SP1, but it sure feels better. Either computer platform has their issues...what OS doesn't? To say one is superior to the other is just silly. It's really just a preference to what you like. Both run programs about the same (comparing adobe programs between mac and pc). I will say that PC has the advantage of better hardware at a cheaper price, especially on desktops. Macs however have a much better trackpad on their laptops. I can't stand PC trackpads anymore after using the Mac trackpad. It is awesome. Gestures are also very useful. I can run photoshop with no problem using the trackpad on a Mac...on a PC laptop, I need a bluetooth or USB mouse because the trackpad is so awful. To say Macs are more secure...I actually somewhat buy into this just because OSX is basically UNIX. UNIX is very secure, especially when compared to Windows (any version). To say Macs don't get viruses is just a lie...but in all the operating system is more secure.

Both companies have lowered themselves to pointing out one another's flaws rather than advertising their own product.

It is rather pointless for Apple and MS to be fighting over novice and ignorant users. Most of these users will be more influenced by their peers than by idiotic advertising.

Anyone will more than a year on either OS will not change based on the present advertising campaigns.

Since MS has already stooped to Apple's level, here is what I suggest for the next MS commercial.

Copy the Mac ad with all of the PC guys in suits and add a few guys in jeans on the right.

Have the girl ask.

What computers are less than $2000? (3/4 of the Macs leave while 1/10 of the PC's leave)

What computers have the latest I7 processors? (1/2 of the PC's leave and the rest of the Macs leave while saying " but you really don't need a processor that fast")**

** A stock I7 920 @ 2.67GHz out performs an C2D clocked at 4 GHz
This is based on my personal experience with both. Gaming and video editing see vast improvements with the I7.

If you want to spend more to get a computer that looks really nice then buy a Mac.

But if you want one that's cheap and HIGHLY COMPATIBLE then buy a PC.

Back when I was in college for computer graphics the college artist (who didn't teach any classes, but thought he knew everything and only used a Mac) commented that the instructors were always working on the PCs. They almost never had to do this with the Macs. He was right, but one day something went wrong with one of the 7500 Macs. When the techs went to work on it at the college they noticed that the inside was put together with proprietary plastic screw and clips. They only way to get it fixed was to send it in to apple, which cost a lot more then if they could simply fix the problem themselves. This was between 1991 and 1995.

These days PCs are a lot more reliable and idk if Macs are better made then in the past or not. I have had a Mac color LC and a PC601 (last mac made before they came out with the powerPc processor). The LC worked fine, but the 601 developed a "chimes of death" error. I had to pull out the motherboard and reinsert it myself to get the problem to stop, but I had to do so over and over every time the problem occurred.

When I was sold a Mac OS upgrade as the full product direct from Apple for about $79 I told myself that I was never going to buy another Mac ever again. I now own a Dell Demension 4600 with XP Home and have haven't had any problems with it that I can't fix on my own. Maybe someday before I die I'll get those old POS Macs back up and running again so I can get the data off of the hard drives.

Macs are still prominent in two areas:
K-12 education and computer graphics.

So do yourself and your kid a favor. Keep the ipod and the iphone, but buy them a PC while they're still young so they can learn right. Most people forget that Apple almost went out of business. I don't want to work on a proprietary system.

[citation][nom]grieve[/nom]I find the Apple commercials humorous…I feel bad for Ma and Pa who go to buy a computer but are ignorant and don’t relies apple is rubbish and flat out lying on their commercials. Apple is marketing to the uninformed computer user, not professionals as we know better.Someone mentioned Apple owning on Consumer Reports… Buddy that report is a joke. Seriously, you buy from Dell or Apple don’t you? What do I care (IT Professional) what the general ignorant public thinks about computers? If those Consumer Reports were done by IT Professionals Mac’s would not exist.[/citation]

I agree with this post. Macs have gotten support in consumer reports. (I hope I am right in that you are referring to the magazine here, if not then my bad). Consumer reports is a good magazine, but I wouldn't look to them for advice about buying a computer. Just got to best buy or c|net or pcmag.com.

My parents have a windows laptop on the wireless network at home that had no virus software on it for two years. After I saw that, I installed anti virus and did a full scan - no viruses found. As long as you are careful with what you click on and stay off of the pr0n sites, you will be okay.

Anybody who owns any computer with internet access and/or shares files with others is an idiot if they don't install, update and run their antivirus software regularly. You can get it and constant updates for free.

"""Well if people would stop looking at PORN and filesharing like limewire and bear share.....and stay off myspace......

they would heve no problems.""""
^--- The #1 reason why i got a mac. They seem to be immune to those dangers.

Daily chores that i do miss on the pc
turn on computer, Virus scan, spyware scan, adware scan, defrag, scan disk, windows update, search the internet, do work, play some games, virus scan, spyware scan, adware scan, defrag, scan disk, shut down.

I wonder how much the people who bought Macs on the background of these commercials will get when their computers get infected. After all the commercials claim it virus and crash safe, which I have some serious problems believing.

So far no virus affected me yet. Course a good permission based operating system helps reduce some of that. I'm sure macs do have a virus that can do some real harm, but thankfully with the Terminal utility there's methods of getting rid of these.

Believe it or not Ive seen those 8 core mac pros run slower than some vista machines, including mine. But then again they are school computers.

the reason why school mac are back cause of bad network but macs do get virus and crash alot my sisters mac had a slew of random badies happen for no reason. first the disk drive stopped no fall it was on the same place all the time. then the screen started freaken out. then the darn thing would start up. finally we go to the mac store and they say they can't repare it because " only a fall would cause the amount of damage" they want 400 buck to repare the disk drive alone cmon we bout her a asus netbook instead she loves it netbooks are mac killers. cheap fastionable{ sorta like a tiny dog but a pc} and it has soooo much bat it keeps going and going and going woooooooott

So here's Microsoft coming up with a good, fresh idea called Laptop Hunters, and all Apple can do is copy and imitate Microsoft's commercial?

Actually we should've expected as such. When has Apple ever innovated in the computer market anyway?

[citation][nom]smlong[/nom]By simply stating (2) ways that Windows is better than OSX, you have clearly demonstrated that Windows is better. Because, OSX has no advantages over Windows.[/citation]

Name other than those two that I mentioned Windows is better? The only reason games are better on Windows is that's all publishers make games for.

You're talking to the choir here. I own PC's, I hate Mac's. They are grossly too expensive for the quality of product you get. That being said, barring the price the OS is superior in every aspect. UI navigation is a preference thing and the Unix core has been and will probably always be better than the cobbled together Windows kernel (PS I still love Windows, I use it every day at work and home.)

It's ok to say something is better than what you use. It's like saying a Bentley is better than my Acura. Better car no doubt, doesn't mean it's worth it.

Hmmm... Obviously (judging by your many irritating posts) a Mac fanboi. Why don't you get a REAL workstation? Say, a PPC 6 running AIX, or a Sun Niagara running Solaris? Too expensive for the Mac fanboi? Or, you don't know how to use it...? Bah. My old Sparc 11i will eat any new MAC (or PC for that matter) for breakfast when it comes to crunching a database, tarring gzipping, etc.

These ads are really starting to wear thin.

Mac vs PC is like fighting over who has the best imaginary friend. Macs are PCs for fucks sakes. They are the same bloody thing.

Because the world is full of retards, Apple gets away making adverts that trick people into thinking their computers are somehow better than EVERYONE elses,

I really wonder how stupid people are to believe these Apple ads.
Apparently none of them have seen the results of the pwn2own competition? I think that alone speaks for itself on how worthless Apples are....

[citation][nom]the_mystery_gamer[/nom]I always find it funny how people blame their inability to fix or tweak OS X on the fact that you just simply can't. Could it be, maybe, that you just don't know how? Because, I don't know, it's not an OS you are familiar with from daily use?[/citation]

Or because it is a closed source OS that is based off of Unix that is much harder to fix or tweak compared to Windows. And yes it is. I have used plenty of OS X like OSes (Unix/Linux) and it takes someone with more knowledge of software than it does for Windows.

Meh Macs adds are pure lies. It would be funny if they put a normal guy who is a gamer there. Oh wait thats right. They couldn't say much against them and he would look like the Mac guy......
