[SOLVED] Are there any application in windows 10 that could recover file for free?

[using google in BSOD]

i lost my files in my external hdd since my pc format it autommatically at startup saying that the hdd is broken (previously, i format it as an android usb. but the pc reformat it 3 days after the format). but, no app offer free recovery . anyone know at least one app compatible with windows 10 that can recover files for free?

recuva can't recover formatted files. i've tried once but it only gave me files i deleted recently in that hdd

Windows (or any other OS) would not format a drive by itself simply because "it is unreadable".

It depends how the drive was formatted, and how much it was used after that. It also depends what you're trying to recover - videos, documents, photos.
You can try also testdisk.
