Hi all,
so I bought a new display a while back
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/forum2.php?config=tomshardwareuk.inc&cat=15&post=347023&page=1&p=1&sondage=0&owntopic=1&trash=0&trash_post=0&print=0&numreponse=0"e_only=0&new=0&nojs=0
and started enjoying my old games on a bigger and higher res screen. I couldn't get the Nvidia 210 much higher than 1366x768 so thought I'd try another graphics card. To do this, I got a new PSU (Antec, very good it seems
) and mail ordered an Asus HD6850 which was the same price as the 550ti.
Anyhow, I un-installed all the Nvidia package (drivers etc.) took the card out, put the new one in. The computer started up, Windows popped up that it was searching for drivers, and all seemed good.
BUT, none of my games will play, some start up recommending highest settings, others seem to set the lowest because they probably don't recognise the card (at a guess). They all load up, then either crash or have no picture at all (just a black screen).
I tried un-installing the auto driver, and installing the catalyst package, makes no difference.
Now, I realise the card might be a bit over-the-top for such a basic system, but can anyone think of a reason why I'm having this problem?
It's all a bit coincidental though, because with my last desktop I had exactly the same problem and never resolved it. I put the ati card in another system in the end and it worked flawlessly for 4 years.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Asus P5G41T-M LX http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5G41TM_LX/
Pentium DC E5800 (2 x 3.2)
Antec VP450 http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=Mjc4Mg==
Sound card, 1 HDD, no other kit.
4 gb RAM, Windows 7 pro (32 bit)
b.t.w. I could get a bigger PSU, but the system ran on a 300w fine, so I figured 450 would be enough. The online calculator suggested 390 minimum.
I don't think it's a power supply issue, although it was disappointing to discover the latest Asus 6850 has two x 6 pin sockets??
