old hard drive are faster. tried to install Intel App. accelerator but I got the message chipset not supported...

the IDE controller is the ICH5R ..the latest..

any ideas why so slow result and why I cannot install the app ?

Is the cache disabled on the disk ? Maybe that is why it is slow.

The IAA Raid driver, needs to have RAID enabled in the BIOS. I
think that changes the enumeration for the interface, and allows
the Intel driver to be installed.

There is a document in the "manual" folder of the motherboard
CD and the file "IAA RAID Manual.doc" is in there. I'm having
trouble reading some of the figures in the document, but it looks
like you may be able to run with one drive on there.

The chip does report itself differently if the raid bios is on vs. off. When
off its 82801EB and on its Intel (R) 82801ER SATA RAID Controller under SCSI
and RAID controllers.

IAA will - if you have an up to date bios, drivers, and copy of IAA install
as 'raid ready' with only 1 drive awaiting a second to do what you want with
it. When drive #2 comes along you can then use IAA to convert to RAID 0 or 1
while Windows is running. See the Intel site for more info - it is quite
sparse still.

If someone does try this, please report back as IAA gives out a loud warning
about data-loss if you do it at run time. Someone stated that it does work
at run time, but I was too squemish to try and used disc imaging instead. So
proceed carefully with a full backup first.

Thanks ..I have only one HD installed...WIn XP report it as 82801EB .. If I
enable Sata-Raid it will not boot...So is it possible to have Win XP report
it as 82801ER with only one drive ? If not it would mean there is no Intel
App accelerator for 82801EB chipset...

Also can I usa the promise controller to boot only one drive or it's only
for raid ?

thanks
