Question Asus ProArt Studiobook 16 vs Dell Precision 5680 vs Dell Precision 7680

Hi everyone,

I need advice on buying a new laptop. I do a lot of 4K video editing (Premiere Pro) and graphics / photo editing (Lightroom / Photoshop) alongside a lot of scientific computational and 3D modeling using ArcGIS Pro, R studio, etc. So, the tasks I use variably need lots of CPU power, lots of graphics power, or lots of memory...sometimes all at once.

Here are the systems I'm considering with some specs for CPU, GPU, and Memory:

1) ProArt Studiobook Pro 16 OLED (W7604). Intel® Core™ i9-13980HX Processor 2.2 GHz. NVIDIA RTX™ 3000 Ada Generation Laptop GPU. 64 GB DDR5 memory. Base Price: $2,999.99

2) Dell Precision 5680. Intel Core i9-13900H. Nvidia RTX 3500 Ada, 12 GB GDDR6. 64 GB LPDDR5 memory. Base Price: $3819

3) Dell Precision 7680. Intel Core i9-13950HX. Nvidia RTX 3500 Ada 12GB GDDR6. 64 GB CAMM memory. Base Price: $4739

I'm upgrading from an old Dell Precision 5510 that is really struggling so any option will be an enormous improvement. I need something that will handle my current applications, but I really need the system to be as future-proofed as possible. Sadly, budget is limited. I've been comparing specs till I'm blue in the face and I'm still on the fence, particularly when it comes to performance vs cost. For instance, at nearly $1700 cheaper, the ProArt would likely handle everything can throw at it, but for how long? By comparison, the Precision 7680 can take up to 128GB RAM so there is more room for upgrade going forward. It also has a better GPU. I just don't want to overspend or regret not spending a little extra a few years down the line.

I should also mention I really like the Precision 5680, but I'm on the fence because a) it doesn't come with old style USB A ports and b) the memory is maxed at 64 GB.

I'd appreciate any thoughts, first-hand opinions of either these systems, or even other systems / configs to consider. Thank you so much! E

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

I'd pick the Asus laptop out of all that since it has the highest spec'd processor but the discrete GHPU is what's lacking. The higher you go with the GPU, the lower the processor goes, to an extent though your ram stays the same. The 5680 from Dell seems like a balance between the options.

Thanks for this answer! My only concern about the ASUS is that I keep reading all these reviews about the ProArts bricking after bios updates, a weird screen mesh issue, and poor customer service. Are these issues largely resolved now? I am worried the machine is good, but unreliable.
