all the ports arent usb3 as the usb3 controller chip costs $15 and supports only 2 ports, for them to make all 12 ports usb3 would cost alot of $$$. usb3 is indeed the same size and shape connector, it can also supply alot more power so external harddrives wont need a power supply too.
[citation][nom]ajcroteau[/nom]I'm confused... why not make all the USB ports 3.0...[/citation]
I think it has something to do with how the USB3 ports are added in the first place. I think they are added on through a chip outside of where the USB is usually found. So they would need a larger chip to support more USB3 ports, which isn't feasible at this time.
Hmm... Since there's so much bandwidth on USB3, I wonder if I can get a hub and connect my keyboard, mouse, modem, MP3 player, thumb drive, bluetooth dongle, etc into one port...
[citation][nom]descendency[/nom]Why isn't this X58?[/citation]asus and gigabyte have announced x58 boards with sata and usb 3.0. I'm waiting for a version with both of those, pcie 3.0 and lucid logix chips...Then I may replace my motherboard.
