Question Asus VH242 connectivity issues

Not sure what is going on here but I have a Asus VH242 monitor that I use to connect to spare systems or something I am working on. If I use a cable with no adapters, it will work fine. VGA to VGA works fine, DVI to DVI works fine. HDMI to HDMI works fine. The issue is if I use any type of adapter. I have tried using some type of adapter on two different computers and can't get display to show up. Also can't get to monitor menu unless display shows up. I can use the same type of adapters on a different monitor and it will work fine

What kind of adapters and what are you connecting to?
