Start off with a Tom's recommended i7-3930k CPU, fit it in an ASUS P9X79 DELUXE board, and top it off with a Corsair H100 liquid cooler for ludicrous overclocking potential and maximum stability. Then, add the fastest RAM kit available, a DDR3-2400mhz 16gb kit from GSkill for ludicrous quad channel memory speeds. Throw in not 1, but 2 of the fastest 120gb SSDs Tom's has ever tested in RAID 0 for ludicrous IOPS and 1 GB/s reads and writes. Finally, add in the famous ASUS DirectCU II GTX 580 for ludicrous clock speeds and overclockability...IN SLI! All housed in the top-rated Cooler Master HAF 922 case, which will comfortably house the Corsair H100 and two ASUS DirectCU II GTX 580's. Powered by a proven 1000w Cougar PSU to ensure there's always enough power no matter how hard you push this beast.

I chose the Deluxe motherboard with some wicked fast RAM and 3 moster GTX 570s in SLI. The PCI-E layout on the Deluxe doesn't work well with the 3 slot GTX 570s so I added a couple of PCI-E risers and a 10-slot case. These cards have better cooling and the ability to tweak voltages when overclocking for further performance gains. I chose the green camp (Nvidia) because I like physX and having the ability for folding (which Nidia mops for the floor with ATI/AMD). I added a beefy and well made NZXT 1000 watt PSU to provide stable power to the system. I also added a pair of Corsair SATA III SSDs in Raid 0 for crazy read and write speeds as well as an additional SATA III SSD for additional storage. In the end you have an extremely fast and balanced system that will excel at whatever is thrown at it.

The 3930K is capable of a higher overclock than the 3960X, which in the long run should be faster than the extra 3MB of L3 cache that the 3960X has. The H100 CPU cooler should match up to the Antec case as there are two 120MM stacked fans on the rear of the case. With this CPU cooler....speeds of 4.68GHz are possible.

I wanted to do a system that uses three cards since I read the article on toms about microstuttering.
This is my shot at it, also it is based on the comparison of sli vs cross fire, I opted for crossfire since this board does both.
The cash flow also allowed me 2 ssd in raid.

In case anyoen is wondering, yes, there is an LGA 2011 bracket needed for the XSPC kit. I haven't gotten the complete story; you may be able to get one for free from XSPC, or you may have to buy one. It should be about $5 if you need to buy one, and given the room in my budget, you could even buy a new XSPC Raystorm waterblock if you want 😉 .

Good luck to everyone.

In the second round, create the fastest system you can using the new ASUS P9X79 DELUXE Motherboard and any ASUS graphics card

I caught my build with the wrong mother board, and looking at other entries so have a lot of other people.

Edit:needed a P9X79 DELUXE MOBO.
Edit v2:wrong price posted
Edit v3:The original PSU was a proprietary Antec size. (I would have awkwardly taped it to the case, but a standard sized one is probably a better idea.)

Edit v4:ASUS does not make a dual slot GTX 580, which is needed for tri sli. I avoid this issue while following the rules by buying two EVGA dual-slot GTX 580 graphics cards, and connecting them to a triple-slot ASUS GTX 580 located in the last slot. Sli with cards from different manufacturers is officially possible according to NVIDA sources.

Not sure why you are referencing the Asetek LCS....I said I was using a Corsair H80 unit for cooling? Maybe we are talking about different things here, but you lost me a bit...When I say its bundled...click the link...and see that the H80 unit comes with your selection of LGA2011 chip

The case is designed for high end ATX motherboards, some of which would support more slot choices (like how the HAF X supports 9 slots but works amazingly for standard ATX builds). This does not change it from being an excellent case with excellent cooling.

An example of an installed PCI-E riser cable for everyone who is having a hard time understanding what I would be doing:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/grahamlord86/2517204584/

ok

a) this is what the link says it comes with

Intel® designed thermal solution (Fan, Heatsink)

b) the closed loop lcs Intel will be providing in the future as an option is not the corsair(coolIT) make, it is the antek (asetek) make....not the H80.....you can tell because it is round....not square like the H80......

no worries tho......

Yes, however this is not what I am using in my build. The link to the product page CLEARLY shows that a Free H80 is included with purchase of a 3930K or 3960k processor.

I'll just point this out and see if anyone can verify me...In the contest description above, and above posts, the P9X79 Deluxe is confirmed, but...It also says any ASUS Graphics Card, however, some people have been using other brand cards besides ASUS. Does graphics card have to be ASUS? What if there's more than 1 card, both have to be ASUS?
