Athlon 2400 at a 200 bus

I will be adding some pc3200 ram to a computer in a few days that has been running at a 166 bus with pc2700 ram. The soyo motherboard does not let you up the vcore, so will the default vcore on an Athlon 2400 xp handle me running it at 200x10 or 10.5? That computer is using an old stock barton heatsink. It has been running fine at about 2100MHz with a bus at 166. And it is my father-in-law's computer, so I would rather not have to use any wire tricks to mess with the vcore.

It really depends on whether or not the chipset can support a 200MHz FSB and PC-3200 memory, on top of that, I doubt that a mobo that does'nt allow you to change the voltage would let you tweak the multiplier.

It can; I have, and thus my question. It is the KT400 Via chipset. Do people that have played with Athlon XP CPUs think an unlocked 2400 can be changed from 133x15 to 200x10 and run stable with the default VCore? For two years it has been running at a 166 bus and at 2.1 GHz.

Don't thrust a Via chipset to do what it is supposed to do, those things have a mind of their own ! I used to have a KT333 mobo that had to be coerced into running a 160MHz FSB, 166MHz was out of the question.

And yeah, 10x 200MHz on stock Vcore is possible with a good core.

What is your stock vcore now? I only ask because there are two versions of 2400s in the Tbred and Thorton cores. One version ran at 1.6V while the other ran at 1.65V, respectively per core family. Most likely you have one of the 1.65V and you should be ok at 200MHZ with the stock voltage. I cannot comment if you have a 1.6v version because I have no experience with them.

I got it to work fine with the stock VCore. I remember now about VIA and 200 bus settings; or rather, I think i remember reading about how it is set at 190 instead of 200. In any event, when i set the jumper to 200, it came out at 190, so I went 190x11 and that computer is now running a 2090 GHz, and it seems to be stable enough for my father-in-law.

Groovy...the speedier bus will definately put more snap in that older system.

For sure... especially when I am over there and bored trying to play games on that computer with its 9100.

Oh dear. That could cause a problem. Perhaps you could use one of these and sell him your 9800Pro?
