Athlon XP Barton 2500+ Woes

I recently purchased a new motherboard to replace the Gigabyte. I purchased an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe. During posting the processor was being ran at 1100mhz and running in cpu safe mode. It informed me to correct the speed. I did that and when I would save to CMOS and exit, the computer would shut down. I would have to flip the power switch on the PSU to off and back on to turn the computer back on. The jumper for the FSB is set for 400/333/266 yet the cpu will not clock at the speed it is supposed to be. In order to get into Windows I have to set the FSB to 100 in the BIOS. I'm beginning to get very frustrated and cannot figure this out. Please help. I formatted the hardrive with a fresh install of Windows XP Pro on it just to clear out any old motherboard drivers.

If it won't boot into Windows then it's not a driver problem.

I assume you've tried setting the FSB to 166, and the multiplier to 11 in the BIOS?

What memory are you using, and how many sticks?

What make and Rating (W) is your power supply?

What does the BIOS report the temperatures as?

It's not the PSU. It is one that came with the enermax case, but I've swapped it out for mine (super flower 550w) and it still did it. I've swapped out the Geil RAM that is in his (1x512) for a 1x512 CorsairXMS. Still got the problem. I've tried 166fsb @ 11 multiplier as well.

It DOES get into Windows, but only at 100fsb and 11 multiplier.

It was throttling due to a poorly mounted heatsink. I had it backwards basically. I'm an idiot and I cannot believe I did this seeing how this is an everyday thing for me. Must have been because I was in a hurry, oh well.
