Im thing the Athlon MP is meant for SMP. Well you gotta think marketing. Why would you want XP to do SMP when you have the MP already doing it aiming at business machines.

Nice Nvidia and ATi users get a Cookie.... Yummy

why? because you can - or not, as the case may be.

...and because 1200MP is about $270 in my town. I'm hoping XP will be better priced here...

i know what he meant.

i don't believe in marketing. i've heard stories of t-birds doing smp, and i wanted to know if anyone has tried it, and if so, did it work?

the MP rating for the processor means its run through the appropriate tests to assure you it'll work in an MP environment. It costs more for the same chip because it costs more money to put the chips through the tests. It is possible to buy Athlon XPs, or old Tbirds and get lucky and have them run in an MP mobo just fine.

Oni is exactly correct.
Let me just add that with MPs, if they don't work in an SMP system, AMD will replace them. With Tbirds/XPs, you're stuck.
