They state the AIW 9600 Pro is AGP 2x (3.3v) slot compatable, but it doesn't even have the AGP 1.0 key notch, it won't even fit INTO an AGP 2x (3.3v) slot!

I bet it's a huge deal to the 3 people I've talked to in here who tried to put 9600 and 9600 Pro cards in their 2x systems and found it wouldn't even push into the slot!

I did better than that, I emailed the Public Relations manager, who should have contact with ALL departments, and told him that as a reviewer such misinformation could tarnish not only their reputation, but mine as well!

Well...not neccessarily. Afterall there are some backwards compatible vid cards and universal slotted AGP's....

Check http://www.ertyu.org/~steven_nikkel/agpcompatibility.html and notice that you can have a non slotted graphics card that can still be AGP 2X

Added: http://www.intel.com/technology/agp/ which is source for the link above.

Ya might want to recall that email and tell the manager that you jumped the gun a bit.

Hey, I'm looking at a bunch of pics of regular 9600 Pros.

None of them have the AGP 1.0 key notch.

The 9700 AIW NP does and so does the 9800 AIW PRO.

I guess ATI is going have to answer to you, Crashman. Those 9600 PROs appear to be 1.5 V/0.8 V only cards.

.... Or end with 'A' like Via.

So if he does not use nVdia, AMD, ATi......

I've got it!! *snaps fingers*

He uses an Intel motherboard with an Intel CPU & Intel Xtreme Graphics technology

AGP Universal SLOT has no keys, AGP Universal CARD has BOTH key slots. And I'm refering to a card here! Show me a PC motherboard that's AGP2x (3.3v) and has an AGP universal slot!

Furthermore I think the engineers probably eliminated the AGP 1.0 key on this card because it's incompatable with 3.3v signals. So if you DID find me an AGP Universal slotted board that supplied a 3.3v signal to this card, it might be damaged!

Yes, I became aware of the misleading spec sheet when my editor published the specifications for the AIW 9600 Pro at the end of my review, copied from ATI's site.

Nice review. I’m waiting for my AIW 9600 Pro from FedEx (Its on the truck). Too bad my processor is sick on my game machine. I get a new processor on Monday.

Crash, I'd say it's just a Typo. Like an AIWR9600P with 2.6ns. OR an FX5600U with full DX9 PS 2.0 support.

Sorry couldn't resist.

However, I do think you're making mountain out of a mole hill, but you're right if someone buys one when they only have 1X / 2X mobo (like so many in this forum have already done) based on this info. That would be bad.

They should reword it unless hey changed the keying just for the new AIWs, which goes against all the review pictures I've seen so far (just double checked some to be sure).

Ah, anyways, 2X is for losers!

EDIT: Hey that was YOUR review? Cool. The only thing it Lacked was it beating nV cards (but then again I'm a sadistic ba$tard), despite there being no real need in what is ostensibly a review for people not focused on beating eon or the other. Actually really it was good dude, liked the video quality comparison.

The latest review I've [cough] read has an actual picture of the actual contents of an actual retail box. Notice the actual card from an actual retail box has only 1 key notch, it won't fit into a slot keyed for 3.3v cards, which covers some of the greatest boards of all time: P2B-F (and the rest of the P2B/P3B series), Abit BE6-II (and the rest of the BE/BF/BH series), all great boards. In fact, find a BX boards and you'll find an AGP 1.0 key in the slot.

This type of card would be great for a system like my old one, P3B-F with 1GB PC133, Tualatin 1100@1466, etc. It was a fast older system with extreme stability and low heat/noise output, perfect for HTPC use. Except that the card won't fit into the slot!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that THAT one was one of the one's I looked at. But I checked out a few more just to be certain, and yeah they all look the same so far.

It would be smart to edit it though on their part, just to be more precise. It does support 2X speeds (on a universal 3.0 slot), just not a 2X slot/keying only mobo.

The problem is this: Find me an AGP Universal slotted PC motherboard that's 2x/3.3v. You won't. So it's not compatable with ANY PC motherboards that are AGP2x/3.3v, simply because none have the AGP Universal slot.

So since these "AGP Universal" slots don't exist on AGP 1.0 PC motherboards, for all intents and purposes the cards are NOT compatable with AGP 2x (3.3v) as the literature suggests.

My processor became the XP 2100 Duron

Fed(upwith)Ex never showed today. I was watching the tracking info and the statement of “3:08 pm Customer not available or business closed” showed up. I was home watching out the window a 3:08 pm. Freaking delivery monkeys lie. It’s not like we have a shortage of sunny days in California. Now I have to say home tomorrow until it shows.

Please what is the most recent graphics card compatible with P2B-F MB? I have this old MB and want to avoid complete upgrade just to upgrade graphics card. (My Voodoo 3 2000 with 16MB seems to old for some new games :(.) I read somewhere that GeForce 2 Ti200 64MB could be compatible but I have no reliable confirmation.)

Thanks

The most recent? Probably the FX5700. The best? Probably the Radeon 9800XT. The best value DX9 card considering the age of your system? The Radeon 9500 Pro.

All the ATI and nVidia cards are keyed universally for AGP 1.0/2.0 compatability, EXCEPT for the 9600 series. That means they work in your AGP 1.0 system. AGP 1.0 provides AGP2x and 3.3v signals.

There was no GeForce2 Ti200. The Ti200 was a GeForce3. All the GeForce cards are compatable.

The GeForce4 Ti4200 would be the best value for your system, but only supports DirectX8. For DX9 I suggest the Radeon 9500 Pro (if you can find one) or the Radeon 9500.

Nearly a week since the PR manager sent appologies to my editor and myself, assuring us the webpage would be changed, and it hasn't. But the info tacked onto the review has been corrected.
