What are the requirements of bank interleaving? Although I've read this article, I still don't understand it completely and I've got a few questions.

- What size of RAM is needed for 4-bank interleaving?
- If I'm running Dual DDR, can I get 8-bank interleaving?
- Do all large DIMMs have the ability to use 4-bank interleave?
- Are there any other articles that will help me understand bank interleaving?

Thanks in advance for the help you'll give.

"- What size of RAM is needed for 4-bank interleaving?"

For 4-Bank interleaving you will need modules with densities higher than 64 Mbit. If they are 32 Mbit then they will allow for 2-Bank and 16 MBit will only allow for single-bank. The amount of interleaving is 100% dependent on memory densities. (Unless you have an older board that was designed around interleaving. I have one in a 2-Bank hardwired setup.)

"- If I'm running Dual DDR, can I get 8-bank interleaving?"

That is a good question. It will depend on the chipset and the MCH. The nForce2 board should be able to do "8-Bank" in essence. It will be doing 2 4-Bank setups. It uses two MCHs and thus they are independent of each other. (I could be wrong but I have never looked at the nForce2 MCHs that way before.)

I've heard on the Guru3D Forum that only VIA chipsets are able to use bank interleaving. Is this true? Can the nForce2 also use that feature?

You didn't read him correctly...

"If you do not own a VIA based board or if it's not in your BIOS then you don't have the option and I wouldn't worry about it any further than that."

If you do not have interleaving as an option in you BIOS (Most current boards) then you cannot use Bank Interleaving.
