Hello all,
I have been browsing around the forums the last week or so, Googling, as well as comparing against the Tom's Hardware GPU Hierarchy Table and the Gaming CPU Performance Table. With that being said, it has been years since I have built a computer - I think the last one I build was back in '07/'08 - I think the i3/i5/i7 line of processors had just been released, if I recall correctly. So needless to say, I am way out of date on what components are the best recommendations these days.
I am comfortable selecting all of the components for a build, but would really like some input on the CPU and GPU components. As said, I referenced against the aforementioned resources, and sure I know which CPU and GPU is more powerful than the next, but I am looking for well-informed input regarding the best combination. Which two will perform with the best synergy? Which combination of the two will minimize any possible bottlenecking?
A little more general information: The computer will be used by both myself and my fiance. I'll use it for gaming (preferably on high settings), and for general use (surfing the interwebz, pr0n viewing, Microsoft Office stuff for work, etc.) - Nothing like rendering, folding, or anything too intense. My fiance may play some games, but if she does, they will be older games. Her main use will be just general use (same as those I listed for me). I am somewhat flexible on budget, but would like to keep the build to about $900 - $1,000 NOT including peripherals or display.
Is it possible to build the tower in that price range that is capable of playing the latest titles on high(ish) settings at a respectable frame rate? Would it be possible at that price to play something like Skyrim on Ultra with a large number of mods, for example?
Thanks for any and all input! If any additional information is needed, just ask!
