I have a asus a7v mb, with a 1300 duron on it right now. The mb has a 200 mhz fsb, was just wondering if it can support lets say a XP chip set. On tom's hardware the high end chips all say 200mhz fsb next to them. But then i go and look up a xp 2000+ chip on pricewatch and it says 266 mhz fsb. So whats the best chip, any ideas?

I think the largest multiplier available for this board is 14. You will need a BIOS flash to get there. 200mhz is all she wrote with that chipset. I have a 1.3 T-bird in mine. One of the other guys can tell you which XP chip would run best at 200mhz. 1.4 T-birds are too hot!

Well, I would get a new motherboard. If you want to get a XP, I would get the Asus A7N8X board. It supports 400 FSB which is upto a 3200+. I have this board and it is rock solid. You can get the non-deluxe version for less than $75. I don't think any XP processors would run well on a 200 FSB. The slower the FSB, the slower the processor can communicate with the memory. By dropping to 200 FSB, you will be losing a lot of performance. If your board is overclocking friendly, you may want to try that. Just get a good CPU cooler and thermal paste, and see what that Duron will go to.
