Hello everyone, I was referred to this forum from others.

Greetings!
I recently just bought all the parts needed to build a new computer. I put everything together and it loaded up fine, powered on perfectly, all fans working, etc. However, when I go to attach the computer to my monitor the screen flashes at me, Analog – Digital – Analog – Digital... It will do that for about 30 seconds then either go blank or a little box will pop up saying “Check Cable signal”.

No BIOS loads, even with the windows vista disk in that doesn't load. It is like the monitor is not connected with the computer. I had my neighbor, an IT Architect for IBM, look it over and he couldn't figure out was wrong, he was saying it is probably either a problem with the Graphics Card, RAM, CPU, or Motherboard; although, he is leaning more towards it being the motherboard.

Here are all the parts I bought:

power Supply: ( CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply)

CPU: ( Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail )

RAM: OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2P10664GK

HD: ( Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM )

CD: ( SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD Burner)

Cooling: ( ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler)

MB: (GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard)

Card: ( GIGABYTE GV-R487X2-2GH-B Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card)

Monitor: SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22" 2ms(GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP Support 300 cd/m2 DC 8000:1

My neighbor he has heard of that type of motherboard arriving DOA, but he still isn't sure if it is the motherboard... Any help is really appreciated because right now I am just sitting with all this new stuff and not being able to use it.

Cheers,

Just because your monitor isn't showing anything does not mean bios isn't booting up.
It wouldn't be your graphics card, because even if your g-card was dead, your mobo should be able to throw up some graphics through the card. So it could be your mobo, but if i was you, i would try tossing in other parts from your compy into your new rig until something works. Start with ram first, then cpu, then g-card, then finally your mobo.

You could also do it the other way around, throwing the cpu, ram, and g-card into a different computer.

Anyways, just try swapping the parts to find the problem.
My other computer is a laptop, so I can't switch parts, hence the problem... I can't find out what part it is.

Well first the obvious. Have you tried both DVI ports on your 4870x2 and tried using the VGA converter?
Yes I have tried both ports for both analog and digital cables.

Ok first is the video card in the right slot? if its a PCI card double check and see if you have it in the one for a solo card.
Yes it is in the right spot, double checked by my neighbor.

Try turning the monitor off, booting all the up then turning it on and see what it says or does.
It gives me the same message as said in the original post

I really appreciate all the help!
Cheers,

Does your monitor have multiple inputs? Try switching around your input to see if your on the wrong one. I know its obvious but it could have easily slipped your mind. hope that helps?

The monitor has one input for Digital, and one input for Analog, so nope no multiple inputs.
Thanks though! :ange:

I had the same thing happen with my comp I built last month. It was cause my GPU was DOA. So that might be the problem.

Ohh btw your links aren't working

The links will work, then randomly stop working, so I just listed the names.

So far I have heard that the GPU, or MoBo or MoBo could be DOA.
I just don't know how to find out which one it is, or if all of them are.

On another forum, someone was discussing how they are using two HD 4870 cards for crossfire and cannot get a signal to the monitor. When he takes one of the cards out it works fine, but no signal when both are in.
I have the HD 4870x2 card (one giant single card), could it be an issue with the card then?

Thanks!

I just realized I am getting no POST beep. Computer turns on fine with all fans running and all lights coming on, but no beep. Started up the computer using just the cpu, motherboard, and one stick of ram (switched between sticks to make sure), and still no beep. So now I am leaning 90% towards the problem being the motherboard, and 10% being the CPU.

I get no signal to the screen so BIOS is not loading, which is why I feel the motherboard is the culprit.
Anyone able to confirm that?
Cheers

well your getting no beep code. i have had this happen before and with me it was the pci x16 slot was fried is there on board vga? if there is try plugging that in and if it does work that means you have a faulty pcix slot. if so i hope you have a warranty cause your going to need a new board. but you can buy testers through tigerdirect or newegg for different expansion slots that will see if there is continuity or error. that would be my guess but it sounds like you might need a new mobo. try using other videocards first though.

also when you put it together were you careful with grounding yourself or wearing antistatic wristgaurds. Electrostatic damage can be full or partial.
