I have a Redmi Note 8 with 3.5mm jack headphones. I connected them to my phone. My phone mostly does not recognize them. On some sides, it does. When I roll the headphones socket slowly in the jack, the sound becomes "blurry" in most positions. There is only a small range of positions in which the sound is HD. This down not happen in other phones, so I guess the problem is in the headphone jack. I tried using toothpicks and moving them inside, toothpicks with wipes, cotton swabs with nail polish remover which includes acetone, and more. I still have this problem. When I used wipes, I got a lot of cotton out of there and some dirt. However, I don't know much more what to do.

Solution
How did cotton end up in there or was it from trying to clean?

Audio jacks (or the contact rings inside) do wear over time from constant replugging. Might help to spray some wd40 and blow it out with compressed air.
