I saw and even took an active part in the Conroe benchmarks debate and flamewars .
Still it made me thing about it for a bit . I always buy cheap CPUs around the 100 $ mark . So I want the benchmarks for the Conron  . They'd better name it this way cause Celeron is lame , I've got a friend who still has one at 300 Mhz .
Looking at those benchmarks I for the Conroe I cand already see a Conron beating an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ which is selling for 600 $ right now .
So come on Intel , I'm waiting for those Conron babies . 😀
Oh don't forget to cripple them pretty good though so they'll be pretty much useless . 400 FSB should do , right . 128 KB L2 cache kinda too much , maybe 64 KB will be enough .

I doubt it would cripple AMD that badly, but knowing what Intel might do, is over-price the chips unnecessarily, so only once AMD has the AM2 line out, can we start saying what beats the crap out of whatever. Though the Conroe chip seems impressive at the moment, its too early to say that it would be a complete rinse out on AMD. Should make for an interesting few months though huh?

i don't want to be paying $1000 for cpus anymore. unless AMD gives up totally on the K9 processor, i'd go get a PS3 or something if i really want to play games.

conroe comes out in 6 months, kills the A64 FX-60, and AM2 , all the AMD fans jump boat, and leave. AMD stock plummets gets bought out by intel. then the new intel conron will cost $1000.

You know, if you want an okay chip for really cheap, why not buy a Pentium D 805? It is a 2.67 GHz 533FSB version of the Pentium D 800 series. It has 1MB L2 cache and can be had for only $138. It is the lowest-price dual-core 64-bit chip out there, bar none.
