"If you just know certain tricks and workarounds, many inconsistencies can be solved more easily than you'd at first think."
You should not have to, they should fix their errors.

I'm running the 10.6 catalyst suite and I don't have the NB driver listed at all. When I pull up the (3GIO) in device manager, it says the driver version is 1.3.0.49 from 5/5/2009. How can I update this? I just installed Win7 64 version this week so all updates should be present.

A low priority and severity bug. So what? All software have bugs. I'm sure there is plenty of similar issues with nvidia drivers but ATI seems always to be taking the bad press around here.

I do not own anything of that hardware, but I feel only gratitude to you, Wallossek, for take all this work to reproduce the bug, and notifying AMD about it.

I saw many times this kind of bugs, and was deeply annoyed by the companies ignoring them.

ati is trust worthy for me with the latest catalyst the frame rates of the games for different graphic cards have improved ...then you want to consider it as a bug???

@lradunovic77: as far as i know, crossfire users are a low percentage among gamers so the issues are prioritized accordingly i.e. they'll solve the more urgent issues first

It's good to see AMD isn't changing the rich tradition of buggy ATI video drivers.

I think this issue here has to do with OEM's not liking having to deal with "Third Party" drivers with "their" chip sets.

Heh, you know I never have this problem because I don't go into the device manager to upgrade drivers. Its just a chipset, not rocket science. Just use the programs and features control panel to remove the drivers, reboot, and then double click on the new drivers.

I always install using the custom option but never encountered this before since most of my installations is done on boards with an nvidia chipset. It is sure nice to know about this. Thanks TH~!!! Well done.

I'm just glad that this does not affect performance or the operation of the system.

If you look back to pre-2001 drivers I'm sure you'll find these ones are not that bad at all. We've got it good these days. Not perfect, but good. There's still plenty of room for improvement though.

At least these two driver bugs don't cause any system instability so, they're the harmless type of bugs and ATI are fixing more and more bugs every month. They even tell you a list of Bugs that aren't yet fixed. So, they're admitting their mistakes and trying to fix them, what more could we hope for

[citation][nom]viewwin[/nom]I wish my hd 5770 would just play any game with windows 7 64bit. I get an ATI driver crash every time. Google turned up tons of people with the same problems.[/citation]

I bet you have a hardware problem. Either a bad GPU, or a bad/low quality PSU.

Maybe, but they seem less troublesome than the nVidia drivers. My wife's PC had no fewer than 20 nVidia drivers for her 8800GT. Many of those were windows automatic updates..I installed the latest drivers on the new OS. I scrubbed them with CCleaner, her PC is not crashing now. I have not had the same issues with AMD catalyst.

Thanks for the very informative article, very nice.

Would it be just too easy if ATI actually made it so work arounds were not needed? Especially the driver update feature. Why should we have to mod a file to access that?

It will take ATI 10 years to figure out, and correct the fact that, their workaroundinstall option should be set to =true.
Tom's figured it out, surely told them, but the deranged catalyst nazi control team of idiots won't be able to make the required correction to a cfg file.
If you want to know why there are 100 different problems with catalyst and ati drivers, this is a perfect example.
After the 2d crap no acceleration discovery by Tom's, this, and many others at the rudely modded amd support site, there isn't a chance in hades I'll be buying the crashing monster screwed up ati bloatware cards anymore.
I was just at their site yesterday and one of their nazi masters said to a poster with a problem "that was a stupid post" - next amd nazi mod I read said in a link with 15 people experiencing the same problem with eyefinity "it works for me!" - and that was "the solution".
SCREW YOU ati.
