[SOLVED] Buying an old motherboard

My mobo (msi b250m pro-vd) decided to stop working almost 2 weeks ago and since then I've learnt I can't just buy any mobo. I have an Intel i5-7400 so most mobo's are incompatible (according to the guy at memory express) but I've looked at mobo's that support 8th and 9th gen intel's, but they still use 1151 sockets?! Are they really incompatible with previous gen Intel's? If they are, is my only option to buy a second hand mobo and hope not to get scalped or scammed?

any 200 series is compatible. 100 series might need a bios update.
