Ok I know this question has probably been asked already, but I've been trying to search it up for a long time I'm not able to get any threads.
I have a gigabyte B550 gaming x v2 motherboard
It has 4 RAM slots, with dual channel

Ok so I want to upgrade my RAM now, I have 2 8GB sticks (Corsair vengeance 3200 MHZ), I'm debating whether to get another 2 x 8GB sticks, or go for 2x 16GB sticks.
If I got for 2x 16GB sticks, it'll be something like:
Slot 1 : 8 GB
Slot 2 : 8 GB
Slot 3 : 16 GB
Slot 4 : 16 GB

So Channel A (1+3) and Channel B (2+4) will have 24 GB memory each for 48GB total, all of them will have the same frequency and will be the same brand, only their capacity differs

Is this advisable? Or should I stick to 2x8 GB. if I get 2x 8GB, in the future if I need to upgrade my RAM, I have to chuck out all 4 of my sticks, so I've been debating what to do. Pls help

as recent as two months ago and pretty much all threads that are related to memory issues has been with mixing and matching ram kits, if it's not due to a bad stick of ram.

Corsair is the only brand out there that has PCB revision numbers of their ram kits, even if they look visually the same. It's due to the fact that they source IC's from multiple vendors. Even if you found the same Vengeance ram kit, you will most likely encounter BSOD's due to discrepancies with the IC's.

Why do you need more than 32GB's of ram?

FYI, B550 chipset, I'm assuming you've got Ryzen 5000 series processor? You should look at a tight latency, 2x DDR4-3600Mhz ram kit to get the most out of your platform.

I tried almost exactly that, and it failed.

B550M motherboard.
2x 16GB Corsair

Add 2x 32GB Corsair

So, 96GB.
Boots up just fine
A couple of minutes later, ethernet cuts out.

Each pair worked fine on its own. But no combination of all 4 would work. Same problem every time.
So I just took out the 2x 16GB, and its now running on the 2x 32GB.

Yeah I do have a Ryzen 5000 series CPU, I will keep that into mind.
So you're telling me even if I get another set of 2x8 GB RAM Sticks I'm gonna have problems? Why is RAM so hard to upgrade TwT
I need more than 32GB's of RAM because I work with AI and right now (at 16 GB) some code keeps crashing due to insufficient RAM, I thought might as well be safe and go for as much as I can to prevent those problems

This is terrifying to hear. Thankyou so much for this warning

Mixing RAM often fails.
Any RAM sticks that do not come in the same package is...mixing.
Currently my 2 sticks come from different packages only but same model
This is such a bad thing to hear man, I'm afraid to upgrade my RAM as I don't wanna waste my money but also I really do need to do it

Also by the way, if any RAM stick which doesn't come together is mixing how do people have 4 sticks in their PCs, do they buy all 4 at the same time or do these manufacturer's sell 4 pieces bundled together?

Sometimes it works.
Sometimes not.
There is no 100% either way.
