Can MB AM2+ use Procie AM3?

i had Mobo MSI platinum soket AM2 ..
can i put into the mobo with procie AM3? athlon II or Phenom II?

If it's an AM2+ board, then yes, with the proper BIOS support you should be able to put an AM3 chip in. But, check the MSI website for your exact model and CPU support list, just to be safe.

BTW: Sometimes people have gotten some of the boards that do not officially support AM3 to work. But that is a risk.

It would depend on your needs. Either of those two would be a nice buy. You may want to add up Athlon II X3 in list.

Check the CPU support list,it supports Phenom II CPUs and it also tells you which BIOS version you need.

As far as what chip you should buy, it depends on what you are going to use it for. The 550 would be a little faster in most games but the 620 would be faster when using applications that actually use all the cores. Both chips are good, but one may be a little stronger for what you are doing.
