Question can my motherboard handle it

i got a MSI B550 Gen 3 and i bought a Ryzen 5 5500 because i thought it was a good pair with it but i will probably do some upgrades in cpu in the future (i have a RX 5700 XT ready for this system) but i dont know how far i can push this motherboard. will it be able to feed a Ryzen 7 5700X or a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or my probable upgrade should just be the Ryzen 5 5600X ? also i didnt buy the psu yet can 500W to 550W feed these processor and GPU?

Any of the mentioned CPUs will perform nicely in that motherboard.

I recommend you get a quality 650W PSU for this rig. AMD recommends a minimum of 600W for that GPU:

are you sure that mobo can supply enough power even for a 5800X3D to works with its full potential?

Which exact mobo? MSI have a lot of B550's

Here's a breakdown of motherboards by there VRM's. Ideally you need at least 8+2 phase design for a 5800x (preferably more), and that's just to ensure normal CPU behaviour.

yes thats the one and i most definitely will overclock but just very slightly like 100mhz faster

Appears to have "4+2+1 Duet Rail Power System".

Should be okay for stock speeds, probably not the best solution for OCing.

i see, so i can probably run the 5500 overclocked and overclocking the ryzen 7's would probably result in VRM warming up alot or no performance gain?

For me, OCing with modern CPUs isn't necessary for excellent performance. With this motherboard, I would have no qualms using any of the aforementioned CPUs at stock speeds. Pairing the 5800X3D , might be the exception, but a regular 5800X I would still be okay with.

Yeah, as @COLGeek mentioned, the VRMs on your board are not very robust. Just about enough for stock higher core count CPUs. With the 5500, you may get away with a moderate OC, but if you find there's any throttling you can't figure out, you know it's limitations of the board.
