Can the 9800gt utilize 120hz

Ok im not good with pc technology bt here goes anyway. Iv got a twintech 9800gt green edition on a msi g31m3-l v2 mobo and 2.6 dual core processor on a 350watt powersupply. I just wanna know if my rig is powerful enuf to give me full 120hz on my samsung s27a950d connected to the dvi input. Because im not getting the same effect or smooth display that i get with the new samsung 3d tv's, and yet i did set the monitor at 120hz. Or am i xpecting too much. is there a diffrence between 120hz on a pc monitor and 120hz on a tv. are there any tips on how to get it to play as smooth like the 120hz tv's if possible. thanx in advance.

Hmm, if you want to run 120Hz monitor on 9800GT I think it's an okay, but if you want to use 3D feature then you just can't since 9800GT isn't capable to use that feature...

For that you will need a HDMI 1.4a capable card and the 9800gt is not.The Radeons 6xxx series for example.

You can use 120hz as monitor but will need to lower the resolution.

No, as he stated he will be using a the DVI connection, not and HDMI connection. A 9800 GT is capable of transmitting 120 hz at 1080p over a dual link DVI connection.

That is correct, but it is also true that 3D vision was not available before 200 series, so the 9800 won't be able to do that.

And even AMD has been able to use 120hz monitors with dual link DVI, the HDMI 1.4a standard is only for HD3D and just recently, AMD added displayport support for HD3D.

Thanx for the advice guys. Btw im more into nvidia and planning on getting me the msi gtx 580 twinfrozer ii oc, a socket 1155 mobo(not sure which one yet) and an i7 processor. do you think that will that help my lil problem?

Your problem is that you are testing your current setup on a 3D TV rather than the monitor you plan to buy. 3D TV's do not offer 120hz input as a result, you cannot get 120hz to work on any card. However, the Samsung s27a950d monitor you plan to buy will work.
