when i reinstalled Windows XP home edition, my sound
wasnt working. so i checked out www.windows.com and read
article about this and didnt help at all. the article
said stuff about problems when u got from 2000 to XP but
i had bought the computer with the XP. when i try to
install the multimedia audio device in the control panel,
it wont let me because the computer doesnt have the
necessary file(s) to install it. can someone please help

Here is what I would suggest you do. Go to www.lavalys.com and download
Everest Home (Free). Install this and run it. Look under the audio
section and it will list your sound card. It will also provide a link
to the drivers if you hover over the sound card name. If you can't
figure that out, just post back here with the sound card make and model
and I'll find the correct drivers for you. Also, is the sound card
built into the motherboard or is it a PCI Card? If it is built into the
motherbaord, you will need to install the latest chipset/motherboard
drivers. You can find the info on that from Everest Home as well 😉

In a sentance, you need the proper Sound Card drivers.
