CD-Rom will not load the CD

Hello,
My CD-Rom drive makes the spinning noise like it is trying to load the CD, but will not. I have Vista, and last night there was a windows scheduled update which included Service Pack 2 update. Would this have caused the CD to not load?

Is the CD-rom icon shown in My Computer??

You can also try seeing if there is a new firmware from the maker of the optical driver (this can be found in device manager)
