Chaos Empire and gambling

Just thought I would tell about my gambling experience tonight. I
decided I would sell a tome<about 7million gold> and gamble it all away,
just for the hell of it and to see what I could get.

After about an hour or so, I ended up with 3 SOJ's Malgrbras's<sp?>
armor as well as 2 other unique ancient armor that i forgot the names
of, but one has +2 to all skills as 575 def, the other has about 365
def. Not a bad haul for a little time. BTW I am using a level 39 sorc

On the weekend I gambled a Windforce and a Constricting Ring. I do
believe that with a little patience and oil potions/tomes/etc. to
replenish your funds, you could gamble every item in the game.

My bowazon uses that set, and it is suh-weet. I hadn't thought of
socketing them. Now I know I will, and what to put in the sockets. 🙂

Do you happen to know what the range of these mods are? The Web site is
incorrect; it lists flat values, not variables.

I know the rings can have +1 or +2 to skills, a percentage chance of
crushing blow, etc., and I've gambled amulets that had +21/+26/+30 to
all resistances, but it would help to know the range.

Heh, my bowazon has Knockback, and I know what you mean. I also have my
merc wearing the Diva set and he seems to survive a lot longer now. The
only annoying thing is when the chance to cast Confuse hits, and
overrides the Amp Damage I had cast to break PI on critters like those
pesky Ghosts or Bats.

Say what? You don't need to use a bow-type weapon on a Rogue? This is
the first I've heard of this . . .

If this is true, that's great. This will certainly help my new
Barbarian out against those uber-annoying creatures, can't remember
what they're called, the small, round ones that hop up and down on two
feet and squeal and spit fire at you. Meleeing them is suicide.

Heh, not too bad, but to really get the good stuff, try creating a
character with the -act5 switch, so they start at level 96, then gamble
with that character. Especially, keep an eye out for the Jewelry of the
Diva, an ammy and two rings _set_ that require you to be level 80 to wear
them, but boy oh boy are they nice, doubly so after socketing and sticking

Yep, my bowazon (and necro, although he has ist's in the rings for more
mf) loves 'em too. (she is just starting NM, still at her level 96 she
started at (-act5 switch)) Their mods are variable so make sure you get /
got the best you can. I use a pair of the the rings on my necro's might
merc also, but not the ammy, since that gives knockback and I want him to
be able to have an uninterrupted attack. Hate it when he hits them once
and they back up and then the skellies get in the mercs way so he has to
wait his turn again. Oh, and on my bowazon's rogue merc (only up to 42 so
far), I am using a Kelpie Snare, kinda funny seeing her shoot arrows while
holding a big pointy stick, but got to love that 75% slow down.

The -act5 switch, when you use that I understand you start at level 96,
but do you also have all the stat and skill points to go with it?

Also if you dont mind, please post how to do that again. I have done it
before, but it has been a very loooong time.

Yes. They are available for assignment immediately.

You simply add a space and then -act5 to the end of the command line in
your D2 shortcut, and then when the game starts create a new character.
Your character will start at level 96 in Harrogath, but will not have the
first 4 act quests completed. So you should go back and do them so you get
the rewards.

I am pretty sure that +30 is tops and I know it goes up to at least +3 to
Valk. The rings go to plus 6 or 7 percent to life and mana. Guess we
will just have to keep getting them to make sure we got the 'best'
possible.

Oh, yes, knockback is almost essential for the 'zon, but I was talking
about my necro's might merc, I switced over to a unique ammy also with +2
skills instead (Mara Kaleid I think) for him. Most of the time with my
necro I am casting confuse anyway, so if/when he casts it it does not
matter very much (exept that his lasts a lot less time).

Yea, someone mentioned it a couple weeks ago and I finally remembered and
tried it. That big pointy stick does more damage than any bow she could
equip, with or without runes or pgems. I think I will keep her holding
one of these big pointy stick things, upgrading to better ones as she gets
'older'.
But, you only get one item, no sword AND shield, even for the act 3 merc
according to the readme.

Those are "Hork Spawns", and yes, they are among the worst to battle up
close. In normal, the Nokozan Relic ammy helps quite a bit. Those
'types' of monsters are one of the biggest reasons I prefer playing a
character that fights from a distance (or in the case of the necro,
watches from a distance, hehe). But they leave nice bodies to hork for
those lovely eggs. For a Barb tho, you may consider putting a bow or
throwing star on switch so he doesn't have to get up close and personal
with them. Remember, you are supposed to be able to socket throwing
knives and such too now. I haven't tried this yet myself, so if you do,
let us know how it works out.

I went ahead and put Zods in the rings last night (totally forgot I
could also socket the ammy, heh). Saw that my Strafe damage listing
suddenly needed a "K" at the end. 😛 It's kinda interesting that rings
are considered weapons and not armor in terms of what the rune will do.

I just meant that since my bowazon has knockback it really doesn't
matter if her merc uses the full Diva set with knockback since she's
knocking everything back anyway.

The mod's author in another forum suggested those throwing potions and,
let me tell you, they are deadly. I don't really like the fulminating
potions (the orange ones) as they are hard to aim, but the gas ones
(the green ones) are deadly. Bloodraven went down, I think, with 3
potions. And now that my rogue has cold damage she slows critters down
which makes them stay in the poison longer.

I don't think my barb is going to want to get up close and personal
with a lot of things in this mod. Actually, judging by how poorly my
zon's merc did even with over 60% DR, I really don't think any kind of
melee character is the way to go in this mod. Especially with those
damn flying succubi creatures and their pink stars, of which two or
three kill my 6,500 life merc in Hell. But we'll see.
