Just recently every time I start XP a message appears stating that chkdsk
needs to check on of my hard drives. How can I stop this from happening and
is it safe to run chkdsk with the F switch (/F) under XP without damaging my
files
Thanks.

Let it run once (just wait, it will run by itself) and it will not
prompt again (provided you have done a proper shutdown). If it runs
everytime even after that check your startup for any batch files which
might be calling chkdsk. If not back up your files......your HDD is in
serious trouble.
