Choosing a Cooler for i5 750

I am looking to buy a CPU cooler for my new rig. I am looking to overclock to roughly 3.6GHz.
originally i was looking at the Tuniq Tower Extreme, from looks its nice, but reviews i have read its not up to par.
I am sure there is a thread here somewhere for this, but i could not find one specificly for the i5.

An interesting factor in my situation is my case. I bought the Raven RV-01... Stack cooling.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. With cooling results if possible. (pictures)

Systems specs are:
Case: Silverstone Raven RV-01
PSU: Corsair 750 Mod.
Mobo: Asus p55 Evo
Ram: Corsair MXS3 1600 2x2gig
CPU: Intel i5 750 currently at stock
GPU: BFG 9800 GTX+

The top heat sink most recommended for the i5 is the Hyper 212+.

The 212+ offers the best price/performance ratio, there are ones better it, they are just a bit more pricey.

What would be some other suggestions, looking for something with a bit more pop to it with great cooling. Looking to not spend more than roughly $80 max.

The titan fenrir limited edition is probably the coolest looking cooler ive seen in a while. OvrClkr has used it and he swears by it...

That is nice looking, and i see it cools fairly decent as well.
Put a push/pull on that and should cool it well enough to OC to at least 3.6?

Yes, 3.6 Ghz is the sweet spot that remains very stable. No need to add a second fan either.

^ Yeah, agreed, some heatsinks perform better with an extra fan, some do not. The titan is one that doesnt need it.

There isnt the best selection for the 1156 socket. I think the titan would be the best bet. Like i said, ovrclkr uses it and loves it.

I did read through the article, They used a i7 870 though not an i5 750.
Right now i am still between the Fenrir and the Zalman CNPS10x Extreme.

Any other thoughts out there?

The CNPS10x Extreme is around 80.00$, you decide what fits your needs and looks best =), personally with 80.00$ I would opt for an H50....

Don't go buy what Frosty's website says, go online and research REAL results and then make your choice.

I would go with an H50 if i had the case for it. The way stack cooling works, the top fan is the only out take. I do not wanna swap that to an intake. I would then have 3 fans all blowing in. Thats why i am looking for a nice single or even dual fan air cooler.

How many fans do you have in your RAVEN?

There are 3 Fans.
2x 140mm intake
-Between the power supply and Video Cards
-Under the Hard drives

1x 120 Exhaust on top of case

If you are going to buy an AIR cooler make sure you don't overspend, for example the 212+ can achieve more or less the same results as the CNPS10x Extreme give or take and you will end up saving 50.00$ that can be spent towards other upgrades that you may need...

Well if you are willing to spend over 250.00$ and you are ok with the maintanance then I say go ahead, if not just settle for a decent AIR cooler. Your temps will be fine unless your CPU can achieve over 4.3/4.4Ghz.... If you are going to run your CPU at 4.2Ghz or lower there is no need for a water loop IMO....

I bought a Xigmatek 1284 and their optional bracket, because I've had good luck with my own Xigmatek. At 3.9GHz running Prime95 my temps were 72.

Before building the second one I did more research into coolers, but some of the best ones weren't available through newegg. I also found that different people testing the same cooler got different results. I bought the Xigmatek Balder. This second machine, running Prime95, runs at about 60.

For our office environment I set both machines to run at 3.5GHz. Under Prime95 the first one runs at 63, the second one runs at 54.

At your desired 3.6GHz, either of these coolers would work. The Balder includes all of the brackets that you need and costs less than $50. You can pay more and get a better cooler but I wouldn't try to buy a lesser cooler.

Well the reason you cannot find the "BEST" coolers on the Egg is because the Egg does not carry them.... Try frozenCPU.com next time 😉

The Balder is also an excellent cooler....
