Hi guys,

I have a Q6600 overlcoked to 2.6ghz (hardly earth shattering) and when I play MW2 the comp will shut down after anywhere from a few mintues to 20 min of playing time. I can boot up no problem right after.

I reset by bios to stock settings and it still does the same thing.

I had HW Monitor open while playing and my core temps never went above 52C. I use a CPU cooler.

Any ideas? I'm about to just go out and by a cored I7 system to play this game.

Hi guys,

Here is my system:
INTEL Q6600 overclocked to 2.6ghz
ASUS P5Q Pro motherboard
Diamond Radeon HD 4850 512mb Video Card
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750GB HD
Corsair XMS2 2 x 2GB RAM
OCZ StealthXStream 600W power supply
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

I just updated the ATI driver and experienced another crash. What happens is the monitors turn off, the system shuts off completely as if I pushed the power button. It boots up normally as if nothing happened if I turn it on.

I have a similar Issue with my rig, specs are as follows:

Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)
AMD Phenom II 955 (at 3.5GHz)
ASUS M3A78-Pro Motherboard (default settings aside from processor)
8GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 (4 modules)
WD Black Edition HDD (640GB, 7200RPM)
Diamond ATI HD4890 Video Card, Stock Clocked at 925MHz core, 1050MHz MemClock)
Corsair 620Watt Modular PS
Antec 900 Case (all fans swapped for Scythe high CFM ones aside from top 200mm fan)

I run COD6 MW2 and get somewhere close to 20 minutes of play in before my computer dies without a BSOD. Boots up normally afterward. I don't have this problem at all with other games, which leads me to believe I don't have power issues...

I run Everest Ultimate Edition for temps and my GPU never gets past 80C at any point, CPU has an aftermarket Scythe Katana Heat-sync and never passes 45C. RAM stays at a constant 36C according to my fan controller/temp monitor. As far as I can see none of this points to an obvious problem, any help or speculation would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Yo, i'm having the same problem as you. I'm runnign a radeon 5870 HD 1gb ddr5 grpahics card
600w power supply
6 gig ramm
itel i7 3.0 ghz quad core
and ranomly crashes in game.
Any chance you found a soloution to this problem?

If you notice everyone that has responded with a similar problem are all running ATI drivers/Radeon cards... I'm no tech guru but seems to be an ATI problem, luckily I went with nvidia and have never crashed once in MW2.. nvidia FTW

it might be an issue with the ATI drivers, i'm not sure. I did look into it though and there are literally no resources on the subject. I guess all we can do for now is wait it out and hope the next catalyst update doesn't have the same glitch in it. If anyone comes up with a solution though I'd be a very happy gamer.

Does it shuts down when you are only playing Modern Warfare 2? because if not then the problem is in your hardware. maybe the motherboard, something. But when if it shuts down when only when you are playing then the problem is the game. Try to re install it.

Nice troubleshooting technique!

Hello, I've got the exact same problem since last night. The only time I can get the game to run normally is by having the resolution 640x480! Anything above that and the game will cause my PC to shut down between 1 adn 20 mins of playtime!
I'm on a Nvidia GTX280 btw and already tried new drivers, reinstall & my temps are fine and all other games run without problems

The Issue is not with my hardware, I have enough know-how to troubleshoot that just fine. It runs solid and cool on all my other games, even the Crysis series, so the problem has to lie in the game configuration or drivers. I just updated to catalyst 9.12 and still having the same problem as with 9.11. I will try re-installing the game, but in my experience since my rig is solid enough there are hardly ever any issues executing something as simple as an app install.

Will get back to you once I've given that a try. Thanks.

I'm starting to see a trend. That some people are thinking its hardware but yet every other game you play works fine so I would think it would only leave 1 answer and that would be the software. The game seems to have bugs I've been reading and Pc owners of the game are not the only ones having problems. Ps3 owners are getting crashes even yellow light of death, 360 is getting crashes/freezes it seems that the company is at fault and needs to fix the game its self. But that's just my opinion. I love the game been working on achievements on steam but keep getting crashes. Tired of it so I'm done playing till activision tells me a solution that doesn't have to do with changing my desktop res. That trick doesn't work so activision fix it already.

if your checking the temps after the game crashes it could of been the game that got your card to that temp in the first place. like when the game crashes on me it sends my comp into a frenzy of spiking the temps and the speed of my fans in my computer.

having same problem with mw2 but not any other game. everything is running ver cool and i have an nvidia gts250 so not just ati problem i would say its the software but im not sure if theres anything we can do to fix it

Well generally I conclude that there is a problem with COD MW2 software because of the ff reasons.

1. Even your hardware specs are totally upgraded operating at its high performance configurations like:

A. Over-clocking of the processor or you are using a High performance processor.
B. Using RAM at its fullest specs like your using too much capacity of memory ex. 4 Gig where this is too big for COD MW2.
C. Good maintenance of your PC.

still it shuts down suddenly.

2. Even you are using Windows 7 32bit or 64bit still it shuts down suddenly.
3. Even you are using Graphics card ATI or Nvidia still it shuts down suddenly.
4. Even if you are updating the graphics card driver both ATI and Nvidia still it shuts down suddenly.

therefore Its the COD MW2's Programmers/Developer Assignment to solve this kind of issues. The best solution to this problem is to send them our forum's regarding this problem so that this will be taken action immediately. We will do our responsibility as a gamer not by just solving this problem by our own point of view. I started to send an email to Activision so let me assure also that your helping me to send also your part to Activision so that actions will be taken right away.

Thanks fellow gamers,
😀 mike
