Compaq Presario Desktop "welcome" then blank screen

My desktop will start up okay (windows vista) and I am able to see the welcome screen and log in with my password, but then the computer goes directly to a blank screen and I can't get it to do anything more.

The problem is due to windows(some files getting corrupted).
To solve the problem do following steps---
1.go to start and type system restore in search box.
2.choose from recommended restore point or choose your owns.
3.click next
4.click ok
