Hi all, I just made an account here to try to get some help with my problem after many hours of frustrating crashes with no warning and much troubleshooting.

Hardware
My computer is a prebuilt computer I bought a couple years back from cyber power. I have a gtx-1080, a i7-8700 non K version, had 16gb of 3000mhz (now 32) ram just recently upgraded to 32gb after this problem arose, two 1tb hard drives, and also just added a 250gb ssd also not related to the issue I think, I have a logitech 302 mouse, roccat isku keyboard, steelseries arctis 7 wireless headphones. A MSI 27in curved 144hz 1080p monitor with free sync (not sure if its on or not)

Problem
I have been having my computer crash on me somewhat frequently when playing certain games for the past month or so. The timing of the crashes are seemingly random sometimes as short as a few minutes when I get back in game after a previous crash or as long as 30 minutes when playing with friends and not all games crash on me. The games that have crashed my computer so far are many many times in Divinity Original Sin 2 (multiplayer and singleplayer with and without mods), like 2 times in Battlefront 2, and once in Rainbow Six Siege, Deep Rock Galactic once as well. One of the weirdest parts is that I can play other games less graphics intensive games like terraria for hours with no problems which originally made me think I was overheating. I can also browse chrome and listen to music and watch movies for an indefinite amount of time without crashing its only in those games so far.

The Crash Itself
When my computer crashes it simply turns off abruptly with no warning it just goes black. I don't hear anything before hand or smell or see, just bam. The timing is seemingly not specific or tied to one thing. It is always and only when I am in game in the listed above games after a certain amount of time (3-45mins). It then reboots by itself to the recompile data cache page I cant remember the wording but it runs some numbers and then restarts like normal. This may be of note but the most recent crash I had also brought up this new generic windows setup screen when it restarted and made me think it like uninstalled windows or something but it mainly just asked some basic preferences and whether I wanted to set up a phone to the PC and about a windows office key and then just booted normally to be background seemingly the whole thing for no reason.

Temperature
In regards to overheating I have launched all the games that I have crashed on and played for some time and watched my temperatures in cpuid monitor and my CPU temp usually doesn't go above 75c while under load in game and rarely 80c. My graphics card will usually max at 84/85c and stay there under full load. When I run prime95 on my cpu, temp jumps up to the high 80s and lower 90s but i have heard that prime95 can push your components to particularly high temps and while I know 90c is kinda too hot it never hits that much from when I game or when I run MSI kombustor. When running kombustor to check my temps my gpu hits about 85c and stays there while my cpu goes to 74c and stays there as well. I have turned my power limit in MSI afterburner back down to 100% because at one point a while back I had my graphics card overclocked for I while but then I turned it back off I cant exactly remember when. Fan speed is on auto with a custom curve and the temp limit is maxed at 92c but I've never seen it hit that. My GPU idles at 50c and my CPU about 38-42c.

Power/PSU
After troubleshooting a bunch of different settings and little fiddly things for seemingly ever I thought that the last possible problem could be that I just have a bad PSU or maybe my graphics card just had like bad vram or something I am not sure. Nevertheless it still remains that it very well could be a power problem but I dont know how to really read or diagnose that kind of issue I do have cpuid monitor running a lot and nothing seems out of the ordinary in terms of the power volt readings and such to a laymen like me.

Hard Drives
It has crossed my mind here and there that it could be some kind of hard drive failure or a corrupted file. My two 1tb hard drives don't sound out of the ordinary I hear now weird clicking or grinding noises and my speeds are not way more slow than they should be. As far as a corrupt file I really cant say but seeing as its been multiple games I cant see it being a specific game file but also not some windows one seeing as it only happens in some games but I am not 100% on that. It could be some kind of corrupt nvidia drive file I suppose but I think when trouble shooting I did reinstall my graphics drivers and they are up to date.

Drivers
A lot of posts I have looked at start with people checking to see if their drivers are up to date and I have done that. I know my graphics drivers are up to date but just yesterday they had a new update which I am currently downloading doubt it will change much, and I have went through device manager and looked for updates on all my other main components as well with no luck. I do have a number of peripherals such as mouse, keyboard, wireless headset and headset transmitter thingy.

Final Note
I really would appreciate any help seeing as I've been struggling for the past month trying to fix this issue so thanks to anyone that can help.

You wrote, "had 16gb of 3000mhz (now 32) ram just recently upgraded to 32gb after this problem arose,".

Based on that information, no part numbers, what you refer to as upgrade may be a combination of memory modules that are incompatible together. Unfortunately, you don't provide enough information to identify the memory. I suggest listing memory by part number and/or link to it. You also don't mention anything about removing the existing memory or if your simply adding extra memory.
Yeah the only way i could figure it out is to send it through discord and then give you the link . Not even sure if it works. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/464183304745254925/687193914587086858/DxDiag.txt
sorry if it looks a little spoopy its just my dxdiag copied
also if that worked heres my cpuid readings at idle right now

and when running kombustor for a couple mins.

I had a similar issue with crashes like this. First the screen went blank/black but I could still hear sound, then the pc would restart and it would only happen while gaming. After checking the thermal paste on my GPU ( R9 280x ) I found that it was really dry and had basically solidified

I carefully cleaned the old paste off and put on some fresh paste and it fixed the issue completely and also lowered my GPU tempreture by about 10 degrees celsius

This might not fix the problem for you but I think it's worth trying and also checking the thermal paste on your cpu as well

Let's start with the 3 most common causes of sudden reboots/shut downs:
1)Insufficient power supply.
Unfortunately, there aren't too many ways to troubleshoot this beyond testing another psu and 'minimizing' the gpu's power limit in Afterburner and then testing it in the same apps that cause the crashes.
HWINFO can be used to check the stability of the +12v rail on the current psu though. Download and run it, and do Sensors Only.
Find the +12v - it'll have a little lightning bolt icon next to it. Now, try to run the 'troublesome apps' while monitoring the +12v ripple - I think that's what it's called - should be pretty steady, give or take 10%, so no lower than 10.8v and no higher than 13.2v.
If it drops too low, that can cause the issue you're currently seeing. If it goes too high, that would trip on the Overcurrent Protection, if the psu has it, and that can also cause the system to shut off.

2)Defective, or incompatible memory.
Memtest86 is a good way to check. You can get the free version here: https://www.memtest86.com/
It can take a few hours, so run it while you sleep, or something. The results should be error-free, with no hangs or crashes.

3)Driver corruption, namely Windows.
Do a virus/malware scan first. Here's a link to Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/
Then do the following: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026529/windows-10-using-system-file-checker

Hello I appreciate the help and have done what you suggested. For the +12v in HWINFO I ran divinity for about 10 minutes and had it in windowed mode and watched the "ripple" as you called it. I had a minimum of 11. 904v and a max of 12.096v with an average of 12.021v I should mention that it crashed my computer again after about 10 minutes of gameplay.
Working on the memtest now

Working on the memtest now
After 6 Hours my memtest is now finished. It found 0 errors through all 4 passes. The ram temp sat at 50c the whole time. I did also run adwcleaner and it found 16 items to quarantine, most of them registry keys but also some firefox things and one folder called C:\End.
Here is the log file for that -https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/464183304745254925/687445300335607934/AdwCleanerC00.txt

I do also have malwarebytes premium and that runs fairly regularly I think it is on an auto schedule. Just to be sure I ran another scan with malwarebytes and it found nothing new.
I also followed the directions from that page you sent me and it said it did not find anything.

Thank you for the idea I did recently put new thermal paste on my CPU a few days ago it hadn't crossed my mind to do it on my GPU as well I may very well do that too.

My bad for my non specific wording what a I meant to really say that when the crashing originally started I just had my two 8gb sticks of 3000mhz ram (not sure on the part numbers for the sticks though I think they are hyperx). The crashing persisted and just recently I added two more 8gb sticks of 3200 mhz ram. I know mixing ram speeds is not a great idea but I already did it and it seems to be working fine even if I beileve it lowered both of the rams speeds down to 2666mhz (according to my task manager) for compatibility reasons I assume. The newer ram was added a while after thats why I don't believe it is not related to the crashing. I also just ran Memtest on my system for 6 hours and it came back with 0 errors detected.

@Ventura21

Is it solved? I am also facing a similar problem and gone through this thread. So, if it is solved what was the reason you found for such an issue?
Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a while, It may possibly be fixed.
I took out my old 16gbs of ram and replaced them with some new ram and I also reset all of my bios settings to default. Those two things combined or maybe one of them have allowed me to play divinity with friends for hours on end without crashing yet along with other games. So it seems at least to be fixed for me.

I mean in saying that I jinxed it and then crashed again after days of no crashes in rainbow six siege after about 30 minutes. So I suppose the problem is still relevant even though for some time it seemed to go away. It may after all be a bad power supply that just needs to be replaced.

Ok... thanks... Meanwhile, I am also facing a similar issue with rainbow six sieges. I am also guessing it is about the power supply. I have corsair vs 650 installed and my graphics card is GTX 960 4GB variant. As a matter of fact, the PC stays active for hours without any interruption if I am not gaming. I first encountered it while playing COD MW1 Remastered. I thought maybe I maxed out settings and recording by obs studio at the same time caused it. But now, it is quite frequent. Maybe when the GPU is at max the PSU could not supply the full power it required. So, it shuts the supply for a flick. Point is that it is quite difficult to find the culprit and replace the same. May be PSU is not the issue I waste money buying a new one. Totally confused. Some people are saying something about Windows 1909 update. I too facing the same after the update. Maybe it is coincidental. Let me know if you find any permanent solution after replacing PSU.
