Hey folks.
I have been having an issue with my machine powering off when playing certain titles.

Specs
CASE: Cooler Master HAF 500
COOLER: Corsair H100i
CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
MOBO: ASUS ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI
RAM: G.SKILL 32G 2X D5 6000 C36 FX B
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT XFX
PSU: Corsair 850W Gold
M.2: CT2000T500SSD8 2TB and HP SSD EX950 1TB
HDD: WDC WD10EZEX-60WN4A0 1TB and WDC WD40EZAZ-00SF3B0 4TB
OS: Windows 10 22H2 Build 19045.6093

When I bought the Ryzen 7800X3D bundle from Micro Center I was stoked. It ran like a champ and anything I threw at it would have no problem. I then upgraded to a 1440p widescreen monitor and was having no issues. Earlier this year I tried playing Rust with my friends and I experienced the game turning my screen black and rebooting my system, sometimes occurring withing 10 minutes, other times letting me play for 45m or so before turning off. This frustrated me and despite everything I tried I could not get it to resolve, so I stopped playing Rust.

I attempted a fresh driver install using DDU in safe mode. I have always ran AMD on this installation of Windows.

Troubleshooting Steps:
  • I tried installing a fresh Windows,
  • I wired two PCI-E cables from the PSU to my GPU instead of using just one.
  • I disabled XMP and resizable bar.
  • I swapped out the monitor to my older 1080.
  • I ran memtest on the RAM.
  • I set the PCI-E lane my GPU is seated in to Gen4.
  • I tweaked the GPU power scaling to -5 (per the manufactuerer's guidance in troubleshooting the GPU)
  • I updated BIOS.
  • I tried older drivers according to some folks on reddit.
  • I reseated the GPU and RAM.

I don't have any overclocking on the machine. I've monitored the temps and I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary from what I can find on Google as a comparison. I can run furmark for an hour with no powering off but Nightreign and Rust seem to cause instability. Nightreign powering off the machine in under 5 minutes every time. I can't get past the tutorial.

What doesn't make sense to me is I play lots of titles, LOL, CS2, RL, FN, WOW, BF1, Marvel Rivals, VR. No issues when playing those games, no freezes or hitching or dropped frames but Nightreign turns off and reboots my machine in under 5 minutes. I've dug into the event viewer and the only thing I can find around the same time as event 41 is this message:

The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device ROOT\DISPLAY\0000.

Which had always pointed me towards the GPU or monitor or something being corrupted with the drivers but I have done all that I can to ensure that isn't the case and the issue still persists in these titles. Please if anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated, I have struggled with this for a while now and left it alone until this point but I really wish to play Nightreign with some friends of mine. I know my computer can handle the game as it does other titles but it keeps turning my screen black and rebooting my machine.

Here are my Windows logs

Thank you for reading and any help!! It is GREATLY appreciated. Have a wonderful day

EDIT
I regret to inform you all the nightmares are true. It powers off while playing BF6 :sob:

Get your self a Digital multi meter and test the PSU without load first.

if anything is more than 5% out of spec one way or another then you need new power supply.

You can search youtube.com and google for digital multi meter testing guides.

Even crap quality unit can keep it's voltages within spec when idle. So, getting multimeter and testing a PSU is a moot point.

Might as well call car roadworthy, just because it's engine starts.

PSU make and model (or part number) is? Also, how old the PSU is, and was the PSU bought new or used/refurbished?

In similar sense; i can say that i have Seasonic 650W Titanium. Good luck on guessing which one i have (actually, not that many to choose from, so, your chances to guess my PSU are far better than me guessing yours).
Didn't even think to post this but it's a CP-9020200-NA brand new from best buy, not even two years old.
Thank you for pointing that out and the reply!

I have a multi-meter, I could try this but I got a spare GPU and RAM kit from a friend to test. The GPU had issues in the past, due to a faulty BIOS profile but since then it hasn't given issues besides this inconsistent black screening.

This morning I wasn't able to play BF6 for more than 3 minutes. I then could open the game and it would turn off the machine just at the loading screen. But it also gave new symptoms. I was alt tabbing as it loaded to open discord and discord began to act sluggish, as well as my mouse movement and discord hard froze. BF6 was still open, with menu animations but my cursor locked and I couldn't click until PC powered itself off.

Instead of the usual black screen, I got two blue screens, showing repeating images and half of the 🙁 BSOD screen. I tried to attach the image but the file type isn't supported by imgur. But I did get BSOD. I borrowed a ram kit from a friend, and a GPU. I swapped the memory and was able to load BF6 and play multiple matches without issue. I played for maybe 3 hours before it turned off, no blue screen this time, similar to my OG post.

Your PSU model is RMx 2021 version. This is great quality PSU and PSU being the issue is slim. Still, there are lemons even among the best.

Random reboots or shutdowns are mostly caused by 2 issues:
1. CPU/GPU overheats and to prevent any damage, system shuts down.
2. PSU fails to deliver enough power to the GPU or fails to keep smooth enough voltage for PC's operation.

First check your CPU/GPU temps, both at idle and under load. If temps are within reason then it's safe to assume that it's the PSU who is acting up.

To completely rule out PSU issue, try with 2nd, known to work, good/great quality PSU.

Btw, the PSUs i have, are: Seasonic PRIME 650 80+ Titanium [SSR-650TD] and Seasonic PRIME TX-650 80+ Titanium [SSR-650TR].
If you could've tried to guess mine, you would've had 66% chance guessing right in the 1st guess, since there are only 3 different 650W 80+ Titanium PSUs from Seasonic. :)

I swapped the memory and was able to load BF6 and play multiple matches without issue.
Could be that you had RAM issue.

How many memtest86 passes did you do with your own RAM? And were they full passes (all 15 tests) or only some of the tests?

If you can fix your issues with only new RAM, then great, issue is solved. But when random reboots do come back, even with new RAM, issue could be with temps, GPU or PSU. Do let us know how things are going, so we can further troubleshoot the issue(s).
