Yes, IF you use at according to the instructions. It is quite possible that a USB3 port does NOT provide enough power for a 2½" HDD. But the adapter comes also with its own power adapter unit. You must connect the HDD using the adapter to your computer's USB3 port. Then you ALSO must connect the supplied power adapter to the main adapter via its power jack. That power unit provides the power the HDD needs to run properly. The USB3 connection is used entirely for data transfer, and not to provide power to the HDD.
