Booted up my PC yesterday and everything was working fine as it always was. Just had built a new PC about a month ago. Then a quick notification pops up for a new Nvidia driver and then everything crashed. Multiple titles each time it would crash once I got into Windows 10 (see some of the errors below). I even cleaned my entire PC with fresh windows 10 install and still getting blue screens. I even went back to an older version of nvidia drivers and still having issues. I do not know where the problem is. Windows memory diagnostics says that my RAM is fine but I'm having trouble believing that. Could this be Windows 10 alone? MOBO settings are all default right now. It even crashed while typing this post. The only other thing I was doing at that time was downloading a game. Also, windows update keeps telling me there's an error but never resolves itself. Update Error (0x80070422)

DPC watchdog violation , Fltmgr.sys , Kernel security check failure , System service exception , IRQL not less or equal , Ndis.sys ,Page fault in nonpaged area, PFN List Corrupt

Specs:
Core i7 9700K
GTX 1080
2x8GB of Corsair RAM
ASUS Strix z390-E
Samsung 500GB SSD

Think you need to try updating your bios. See if that solves your problem.

You can find bios updates here for your specific motherboard.

Updated BIOS. Launched new game. Two blue screens back to back. Memory_Management and IRQL Not Less Or Equal

Edit: make that 3 times, “attempted write to read only memory”

Hmm, give me some time to try to figure this out and I'll get back to you.

I popped your specs into pcpartpicker to check compatibility and there were some errors. I don't know all of your specs but I'd definitely go pop your specs into the site and see what errors come up.

When I entered the build information you gave me, this is the error I got:

"Some Intel Z370 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Coffee Lake Refresh CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. "

That is why I suggested you update your bios.

Oh gotcha, my chipset is Z390. I still updated the bios though. Still good to check! Maybe I’ll re update Nvidia drivers to the newest set. I still feel like this is more windows software than anything else. I just don’t understand. I’ve had to choke out the system so much I fear of damaging the actual hardware

This is probably a super dumb question, but is your Windows copy an official copy, or is it some free or cheaper copy off the internet? If your windows copy is corrupt, you'll have the same issue every time you re-install.

EDIT: I just realized that I put in the wrong mobo in PCpartpicker. My apologies! I'll put in the correct one and see what happens.

So when I upgraded my PC I found out that the free version of windows 10 I had upgraded to from windows 7 on my previous build couldn’t transfer over so I had to buy windows 10 home :(

I've been digging around the internet for causes of these error messages you listed first.

DPC Watchdog Violation- basically when a bug checker called "watchdog" detects that a certain DPC has been running too long. Is there a chance that any drivers you have installed are not compatible with Windows 10? Say for example, you have an audio driver that isn't supported by Windows 10, you plug in headphones...there's a BSOD.

IRQL not less or equal- corrupt system files are one common cause for this error, but you claim you have re-installed a clean copy of Windows, so it seems as though there should be a different cause for this. Once again, another cause for this is incompatible device drivers.

I haven't even looked through all the errors you listed but just after seeing these two I suppose I'm leaning towards an error with one of your drivers. This doesn't even have to be a driver for say a GPU. Even something as small as an incompatible sound driver could cause a BSOD.

Understood, thanks for looking into it! :) Hopefully I can get it figured out

That worked perfectly! The process names that caused these faults were:

r5apex.exe - Apex Legends main executable
SearchUI.exe - Cortana (Windows Search subsystem) main executable
svchost.exe - Service Host Process for Windows, loads the services you see in the Services tab in Task Manager
chrome.exe - Chrome web browser main executable

Considering the disparity of process names among these, plus the other bluescreens you already mentioned above, my guess would be that you are looking at a RAM problem.

  1. You've overclocked your RAM a bit too much and need to dial it back. If you have never applied any OC to your RAM in this machine, move on to...
  2. Your RAM isn't quite seated properly. I've had this issue in my own computers before. It may look and feel like it is properly in the slots, but something isn't making good enough contact. Remove and reinstall all of your RAM from each slot.
  3. One of your RAM sticks is faulty. The Windows Memory Diagnostic isn't actually all that great in finding issues in my experience. You would likely be better served to use a tool like MemTest86.

I just finished looking through all the files aswell and was just about to type up a similar post. I do agree that this issue has something to do with a PC component rather than the operating system. Great find :)

Thank you! I might have missed mentioning it above but I did try and re-seat the RAM. I might try that again tonight. I'll also run MemTest86 overnight which will hopefully confirm the mass issues.

Tried to run Memtest86 last night but for some reason couldn't get the USB to boot...mobo skipped over USB and just booted back into windows. Since I got the RAM only a month ago and the dump files seem to lead to the RAM I was able to get a replacement send to me. Should be here tomorrow. I'll be doing another clean OS install as well. Is there any potential this could be motherboard related as well or is that uncommon?
