Alright I have a problem. I removed a bunch of spyware from this computer
which included Aurora, WinFixer, Surf Side Kick, and many others. What
happened was after rebooting into Windows I was prompted to re-activate
Windows even though I hadn't changed out any hardware. I thought this was
rather strange. I went ahead and did an overlay of the operating system.
Upon doing the overlay I was prompted to activate Windows, so I did. Upon
getting into Windows I found out another culprit which was giving me
problems, it was a directory within Program Files. I went into safe mode
and deleted the directory. After that I restarted Windows and it kept
rebooting after the Windows splash screen. The system was running Windows
XP Home with SP2 installed. I'm wondering what exactly happened. I've
searched Google and came across another posting where someone had a similar
situation but did not resolve it. He did resolve it but the guy went ahead
and formatted the computer which is my very last resort here.

Nocturnal,
First, turn off "automatic restart on failure" setting. Then use Safe mode, if needed, to do research, cleanups, etc.... review Startups in MSCONFIG. Use MSCONFIG to minimize all startup programs to just (a) antivirus, & (b) firewall (if using 3rd-party firewall).

If you must, reboot & select/use "Safe mode with Networking" (so you can have internet access)... get & use SYSCLEAN, a free virus cleanup tool.
Download SYSCLEAN again (be sure to get latest signature files), and then run it within Safe Mode.
See PA Bear's notes on Sysclean from TrendMicro.
Scanning with SYSCLEAN Robear's way

I suggest you Disable automatic restart on system failure. Just to see if you can get a STOP code, or if you can login to Safe mode, then it's possible you can restart the system in normal mode later on.

When the pc is booting up (after the BIOS has done its POST test and
before Windows starts loading),
Tap F8 Function key to get bootup options. Tap & keep repeat tapping F8 !

You will actually see "Disable automatic restart on system failure" as an option .
Select that and give it a try. This option is available if you have XP service pack 2.

Once restart on failure is disabled, you should get a STOP error with
text --- at the next problem.
Write it all down, and then start searching for the final solution.
And post back here with the STOP code & text.

B) If no stop code, and still unable to login to Safe mode, reboot pc, repeat the F8 tap, select the option with "VGA mode".
See if you can login.

If still unable to get into any mode......
Last, C) I'd do F-8 Function-key selective bootup and try hard to use Last Known Good.

When the pc is booting up (after the BIOS has done its POST test and
before Windows starts loading),
Tap F8 Function key to get bootup options. Tap & keep repeat tapping F8 !
