[SOLVED] Corsair ST100 Headset Audio jack

I have a Sennheiser HD 599 SE and I also have Corsair ST100 headset stand. I have noticed it has an audio jack on the side but what difference does this make from plugging my headphones into your motherboard? Besides not getting 7.1 surround sound

The headset stand connects to the PC via a USB cable, meaning it has a built in sound card. So the difference if you use it, is that you don't use the sound card/chip on your motherboard.
