I have a DVD Burner and a CD burner, Now Windows XP wont let me set both
drives to be write enabled at the same time. If I enable one the other
automaticly disables writing.

Thanks for any help.

I have ruled out any hardware problems as both drives will read disks I just
can only set one drive to be writeable, That drive sets to drive "G" and the
one that won't write is set to "H", if I try to enable "H" to write it
becomes "G" "G" becomes "H" and "H" only reads. Yes this has me stumped !!!

I don't understand the problem. Windows has always allowed only 1 drive to
be writable.

Why are you under the impression that you can have two drives writable at
the same time?

??????????
Am I misunderstanding this point or is NoNoBadDog! saying that if I have an
CD-RW and a DVD+/-RW (which also does CD-RW), that when switching from
burning a CD on the CD-RW, to burning a CD or DVD on the DVD+/-RW, I will
have to manually make adjustments prior to the switch?!?

Comments anybody....

r.

P.S. I don't have the DVD+/-RW yet (Christmas Gift to self)

1. Windows has no native support for DVD burning.

2. You can only have ONE drive designated as writeable. It has always been
this way. Some software such as EZCD Creator will allow you designate more
than one drive and use them if your hardware supports it. Windows does not
allow this natively.

3. You could have gotten your answers much more quickly by using Google.

The problem is I now have a Blank disk in the CD-RW/DVD Combo drive under My
Computer Drive "H" Properties it shows a blank disk ready to go.
I also have a Blank DVD disk in the DVD-Ram drive and it cant access the
disk and writing is not enabled, I should be able to put a blank disk in
either drive and use it without changing the drive properties.

Other Writing software EZ CD 5, Direct CD, and Alcohol 120% are also
affected. I have removed them all but the problem is still there.

Has anyone safely uninstaled SP2?

I have SP2 with cdrw and dvdrw. I can only enable writing on 1 drive at at
time as well. In Nero I can use either one by selecting it within the
program and write successfully on both.

a) XP has NO support for DVD burning.

b) Windows function for burning to CD has no way to choose which drive to
write to, so it requires that there is only ONE writable drive. 3rd party
burning programs usually has a way choose between writes.... (that's why
I've disabled SP's internal burning functions and use InCD to enable
drag'n'drop" etc.. even though it requires you to format the disk first)
