I recently changed cpu from a G2130 to a I5-2400, cleaned dust and changed thermal paste, but while the old G2130 used to have a 35-45 idle and a 60C max temp this one sits at 40-55 idle but goes up to 85 while i'm gaming, i tried to render in blender with the CPU at full load and it hit 99c, upon exiting the render it goes back to 55 and cools down to 45-50 afterwards.
Yes i did remove it again and change thermal paste , but same issue.
Mobo is MSI H61M-E22, cooler is the stock cooler i got with the G2130. I noticed the surface area is pretty small compared to most coolers, could that be the issue?

Solution
So you've got a smaller cooler than you're supposed to as the 2400 is a 95w processor and the g2130 is a 55w one:

But if you're on a budget and don't mind noise, there's an easy fix--floor all your fans, especially the cpu one. If there isn't a bios option for this, you can use a paperclip and remove the pin header for the blue pwm wire from the cpu fan. Be sure to seal it in tape so it doesn't contact anything else.

This will cause your cpu fan to run at 100% all the time and you'll be able to use your i5 without worry as it won't heat up as much. I do this all the time using 65w heatsinks on 95w processors since fan noise doesn't bother me...

You still need to get a proper cooler for it, but almost anything will do as long as it works on 95w processors.

Hope this helps!
