Well the Intel Core i7-3840QM is Ivy Bridge. I originally picked that one and fell in love but later realized that you can't put an IB Processor into a SB processor socket. :/ Thanks for the thought though!
I think you are mistaken , it is the same socket
1 - i7-3840QM

read the socket : Sockets Supported FCPGA988
2- i7-2960XM

read the socket : Sockets Supported FCPGA988
The same socket man ...
Edit : ok there are 2 Packages for ivy bridge , 37.5 x 37.5mm (rPGA988B); 31.0 x 24.0mm (BGA1224)
sorry about that
hey how about the Intel Core i7-2860QM, 4x 2.50GHz ? 45 watts ?
Yeah i know it's frustrating. and sure I know I can use the Intel Core i7-2860QM but that is only .2 GHz faster with four cores... I know the Cores make a huge difference but I would like the best I can get if I am going through this.
well , if you want to pay $1000 for the extreme chip , I guess it is better for you to sell your notebook and invest the $1000 on a new Haswell + GTX 780M new Sager or Clevo , or w/e .. it will be the same Price for you at end .. you are paying $1000 more ...

The best part is if my mother board supports the 55 watts, it's cheap...

hahahaha
well there is a fast way to compare ... look for online images for the heatsink that comes with the extreme chip and compare t to yours , count the heat pipes (very important) , and the fans numbers and cooling fins ...
I think if your Notebook had the option to add an extreme cpu at purchase date , they would not use 2 different heatsinks ..
and try to contact them as well. I Think they will help.
do you have an image of your system open ?
I use this website to see all the specs for my build; because these are all the options I had when I bought it... not from this site though.

and if you need to i can take the panel off, the heat sink is small and always roasting, but I am guessing it is designed like that with one fan directly above the Processor chip blowing out.
man , that Sager has only GT555M
forget the whole thing man , don't pay $400 to upgrade and w/e
Just look at this and tell me what you think (hint GTX 770M)

RAM and Hard Drive are shit but yeah its really nice. I have an SSD in my Rig now so I'd have that and probably go up to 8 or 12Gb of RAM. $1100 probably... But I'm connected to this one. My plan was to spend a little on it this summer and then Get a nice PC to take over the hard work while I still get a Portable that's Decent.
lol you are spending more actually .. sell yours for like $500-600 and put the $400 CPU upgrade with it and you will have a brand new super Haswell machine , with Sata 6G/s , Even if you don't sell yours , the GTX 770 is worth the difference it is 3 times faster than your old 555 ...
and you can move the SSD to it as well ...
I really don't recommend you paying $400 for new cpu and ignore this Toshiba ...
do it smart , sell yours and keep the SSD as well if you wish , and put the HD that comes with the Toshiba in the Sager .. and sell it with it.
that $1100 , you AAAARE paying with this upgrade you are planning. it is INSIDE.
