I am trying to find a decent cooler for my cpu other than my stock one...

I have a nForce (MB-N680-ILT9) as my motherboard and some of the cpu coolers I have looked at will not fit because of the heat sink on the northbridge... I was wondering if there were any other models I could get that would fit...I have plenty of room in my case for just about anything and also enough power as well.

My cpu is an E8400 btw...

Corsair Toughpower 750 watt
Cooler Master RC-690-KKN1-GP case
nForce (MB-N680-ILT9) motherboard
OCZ reaper 8500 4 gb
1 tb western digital hard drive
1 LG dvd drive
8800gts 320mb graphics card
running to two 22in monitors and occasionally a 32in westinghouse lcd

I have looked at CM Hyper 212 and was decent...and others as well.

The Hyper 212 is probably one of the best coolers for the money (less than half the price of the best one) - I have one too
At the time I bought it a few years back it was ranked number 3 out of All the air coolers out there and only just behind the then best at the time - Thermalright Ultra 120.

Check out http://www.frostytech.com/ for a great cooler review site - is all they review.

Currently the newer (than my older model Hyper 212) Hyper 212 Plus is ranked number 10 - which is still very good beating the old Thermalright champion! Unfortunately they have not yet reviewed the new Thermalright Venomous X.

Without checking the other reviews I'd go with the new CoolerMaster Hyper 212...

hyper 212 is a great cooler, also its not that big. arctic cooling freezer pro 7 is also very nice for its size, xigmatek s1283, scythe katana...
also, u can try to find the stock cooler of a quad or i7 cpu, those are little bigger, it should do the trick, depends how much u wanna overclock.

All the 45 nm CPU's use the same size heatsink. The 65 nm heatsinks are twice the thickness of the 45's. A 65 will work.

Stock i7 heatsink will not work. The footprint is a little larger.

What's your budget? Hyper is decent but definitely there are better options out there. Depending upon your budget.

Same here. It's an effective cooler for the E8400 (I use three of these coolers) and it will fit and it's also on the quiet side.

I did buy a zalman 9500 but it would not fit because of the bridge...budget wise would be under $100 because I also have to buy case fans as well...going with 4 140mm fans...

Don't get the freezer pro 7, although better than stock, it is an ok budget cooler, but no where near the Hyper 212 or other top coolers! Not sure about the newer rev2 model though which costs £18

Whatever you get, I am sure wll be a great step up

hmm, having had a little more of a look at frostytech number 1 cooler, the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme...

I'd go with that if you can spare £40 for it, prob will be my next cooler. It made by far the coolest temp and was also pretty damn quiet too - plus has cool blue LED lighting
But is Big cooler...

Not seen any reviews on hell_storms2004's suggestion though, may likely also be great (and smaller), though bear in mind you will have to buy a separate 120 fan for it + the cooler itself will prob cost a tiny more than the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme which comes with a quiet fan.

The only problem I would have would be if it would block my heatsink on my northbridge which is what happen to the first CPU cooler I bought..If I could I would go with Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme...but if that did not work might go with the Hyper 212 Plus.

From that point of view...

I'd go with the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus for £20 from overclockers and save some money + get a great cooler in the top 10.

It has great clearance for the motherboard + RAM and although quite big n tall isn't a Monster like some others!

From frostytech review:
The 120mm PWM fan on the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus heatsink features swept forward impeller blades that certainly appear 'cutting edge', but how loud is this heatsink at 2200RPM? According to Frostytech's real world sound measurements, the Hyper 212 Plus puts out about 50.1 dBA at full fan speed, and is whisper quiet when the fan runs at 600RPM (35.3 dBA).

I would like to thank everyone for their comments. I have decided on the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus which I managed to pick up for $29.99 american dollars or £18.44 for you over the pond. Also managed to get free shipping as well. Also I ordered some more fan cases which should help tremendously.
