[SOLVED] CPU fan and heatsink fell off

My fans started getting pretty loud yesterday, and I thought it was abnormal but it happens occasionally when it is under heavy load (which it had not been at the time).

I boot it up this morning and it was much louder than when it normally loads up. I restarted one more time (after cleaning all the dust on the outside) and it rebooted fine until about 2 minutes later it gets really loud and I hear a thud.

I see that my heatsink and cpu fan fell on my gpu and it was still running. I immediately turn the PC off and see the damage. [ (https://imgur.com/Qd0beWo)]View: https://imgur.com/Qd0beWo](https://imgur.com/Qd0beWo)
I hope it's not anything too big but there is a black piece to the left of my cpu which fell off as well (After further examination it seems to be the 1/2 hinge that connects the CPU to the mobo).

Relavent Specs:

Ryzen 7 2700x w/ stock fan

MSI x470 gaming plus

I can give a full spec list if needed.

It appears to still be connected partially on the bottom

How do I proceed from here?

Above your CPU there are 2 screws, see them? Between them there should have been a plastic bracket that the CPU fan clipped on to. Without that then the heatsink will not secure nor will it ever.

Did you even have it there? Did it break off? I have never ever seen one break but I guess it could happen.

Yes thats what I'm seeing in those pics. You need to replace that piece, or get a new cooler that doesn't use the plastic hold downs. You'll need to look up the manufacturer instructions of the cooler you choose to see how it mounts.
So I found a Mugen 5 Rev B fan and some arctic thermal paste and it seems to be a screwed down installation but the fan goes a different direction than my wraith cooler which cools toward the glass (towards me on the side). Should that be fine? Also, it comes with thermal paste, so is arctic necessary (just as a sidenote)?

That's a fine cooler but it's tower cooler, nothing like AMD OEM. Make sure you position it to blow towards top or back of case.

The cooler comes with thermal paste that is fine, no need to by Arctic, it won't make a difference.

That cooler seems to have its own mount and backing plate. As mentioned make sure the exhaust side faces toward the back or top of your case.

Basically the fan intakes through the front with the Scythe logo, so the cooler side should face the back or top.

Since I have a fan in the back of my case would that be an issue if it was about an inch or so apart?

To everyone who helped me solve my problem, I sincerely thank you. I tried asking for help on reddit earlier to no avail. People like you guys who help other people non stop for no external gain restore my faith in humanity (a bit cheesy but anyway).
