I was browsing the web and i heard a pop and i looked over and saw my cat so i thought it was just him jumping on something but then my computer randomly shut off. so then i tried to turn it back on again and it turned off almost immediately. then I looked through the side panel to see the heat sink sitting on top of my graphics card. I am wondering, do you guys think that the cpu is still usable?? i am buying a new heat sink but if the cpu is not usable then i will have to send it in which i dont want to do.

amd fx 8120
some weird thermal take piece of *** heat sink

cyberpower didnt even put the stock heat sink that the fx is suppose to come with on it.....

If you already verified that it worked after the cooler fell off, yes, it should be OK. But I wouldn't run it without fresh TIM applied. If the retention bracket is damaged, you will need to replace it before you can re-install the CPU/Cooler.

the thing is, i cant put it back on because the mounting bracket snapped. I have no idea how this could have even happened.

Also, i have already cleaned my cpu and i have no thermal paste.

but i only turned it on once more after it turned off so wouldnt you think that it should be fine?? it automatically turns off at a certain temp right?
