mcp61sm-gm/1.0/ phoenix tech,ltd 6.00pg 11/15/07 went to a computer store and wanted to buy a amd 64x2 6000+ but the man said that a amd x3 3.1 would work but i cant find anything online that suports what he said no bios update is this possiable that cpu will work

I believe you are correct. What he said would be true if there were a BIOS upgrade as many AM2 boards can use AM2+ processors but without a BIOS upgrade supporting this it's not likely. You could ensure that you could return the processor if it doesn't work and try it but it would probably be a waste of time. Get the 6000+ if you can find one or be happy with what you have until you can build a new system.
